It depends on the game and whether or not we think it could use some fleshing out. KQ1 could have used fleshing out, but we were still "new" in the bussiness at that point.
And I'll give you the opportunity to reconsider your statement AFTER you've tried KQ2+.

Look at Erpy's Avatar for an example of a great game made even better by a remake and some major fleshing out.* If done well, it can make the game better and not be an insult to the original.
*Though there are still some who say the SegaCD version is the only one they'll play.

Well of course. But at this point I can only relate to the remakes which has been done... primarly, all the remakes done by Sierra, and I really liked those. They enhanced the elements which needed improvement while staying true to the originals. So I'm just saying that altering stuff which defies the original may backfire... then again, this is only my opinion (and I've always been a pessimistic ol'twit anyway =/ ) and as you mentioned, I can't judge what I haven't seen... it's just pure speculation at this point.

That's the art of remaking. Keeping the good things in. But not copying the flaws of the original is just as important. And KQ2 had quite some things that would be considered flaws these days.

Yeah... I don't remember much of KQ2 anyway. I've only played it once and that was some years ago... one of the few things I remember from the game is that there was some bridge which really annoyed me... I don't remember why it was annoying, just that it was =P
I should replay the game one of these days.

The bridge, which can only be crossed a certain number of times, is certainly one of the annoying parts of original KQ2.

I played that game and the part that annoyed me was that I went to the poison pond and the ferryman wasn't there. Maybe it was because I wasn't wearing the cloak and ring that the Grandma gave me. Also, it took me a while before I could find Little Red riding hood, and when I did I sometimes wandered off the screen by accident and had to find her again because she was always moving around. I would definitely say that the bridge was annoying, as well as crossing the bridge again after going to the doors and accidentally falling through the crack. When I played KQ2 for the first time, I didn't know that you could only cross the bridge only seven times.

The ferryman is only there after reading the inscription on the third door.
And yes, the bridge is a nasty thing. There's no longer a limit to the amount of times you can cross it in KQ2+ though. (that doesn't mean it isn't an unstable thing that could get you killed)

Erpy,
Do you still get 1 point per trip when you cross the bridge?
Re: Ah.

No. The reason you got points for crossing it in the original was because you could only cross it so many times before it falls. We didn't want to create dead-end situations, so we took out that preset number of times you can cross.

About 18 of them right now. (one person hasn't responded yet)
Apart from the chosen beta testers, we (mainly Wookie) also asked some other people to test the game.

Hey Erpy,
I've been following this site for a long time now and I'm eagerly anticipating the release of the KQ2 and QFG2 remakes. And while I would also look forward to a KQ3 remake, I wonder if you've ever given serious consideration to remaking Leisure Suit Larry 2 and 3? Larry 2, IMHO, could be expanded in a lot of ways... more music, expanded plot, more descriptions, etc, and if adult content is a problem, Larry 2 really isn't that dirty of a game overall.
As for Larry 3, it's considered by many to be the best in the series and again, unless the adult content is a problem, I would love to see it remade.

Does KQ2 work on XP?

KQ2 Beta works fine on XP, so I assume that KQ2 - full version will also.

Now that I've experienced the grandeur of King's Quest II VGA, I must again change my vote. The Colonel's Bequest would be nice to see remade, but it's a pretty well-developed game as it is. There's really no way Tierra could improve it, other than through its graphics. King's Quest III, on the other hand, would be spectacular. King's Quest II VGA hints somewhat at the plot of King's Quest III. It would truly be a gift to see these two games linked.

All games, that would not work on pentiums and windows 95, 98, etc., should be redone. sq4 as an example. the game coding was too slow and the security bot showed up almost immediately at the start of the game. many other games also could not be played on machines above 20-75 mhz.

Unfortunately we already agreed not to redo games that are already in VGA. Spending many months on a VGA-game just to work out errors that Sierra left in isn't worth it.

..And this is only for Sierra workers to work on, not for Tierra team.

"Conquest of Camelot" and "Colonel“s Bequest" would be on top of my personal wish list because Werewolf Productions are already working on PQ2-VGA remake.
But I never played Kings Quest 3 before and most people on these forums praise the game to the skies. Furthermore TIERRA already has a very special relationship to Kings Quest games so KQ3 may be the best choice for their next project.

Here's an interesting thought; Would Tierra consider making a remake of their original KQ1 VGA Remake, with an enhanced plot and storyline?
I've noticed some people requesting a Gold Rush remake. GR is one of my favourite AGI games - the story is very well done, it has a couple of good puzzles, and the plot and dialogues could be enhanced like Tierra did with KQ2+.

I'm a space quest fan at heart, so i think SQ3 would be a great one to remake.. however it doesnt need one IMO, if one was to be done, it would have to be done by a professional remake team like Tierra, anybody else would ruin such a great game...
Having said that tho, I think the best game to remake would be Kings Quest III .. keep going with the Kings Quests ... However, it doesnt worry me caus no matter what you guys make will be fantastic! Keep up the good work
