Here's one I found of me cleaning my dorm last year. I'd just finished up a play and I've still got the makeup on, which is why I look like a dirty street urchin, heh.
Winter Cleaning.

I thought I'd post these just so I can boast about how large my back yard is.
At the southern end of the yard, looking north.
Near a tree.
Me doing what I do best (yeah, right!).
Action shot 1
Action shot 2
Action shot 3
Time for a beer, I think.

You're right Relight: Erpy doesn't much look like Nash... or me. I guess that's one of the problems with avatars. You tend to associate faces with them. For example, I'm sure that many people thought I looked like a green skull eating a parrot in real life.
And for everyone's browsing pleasure, I found a couple more pictures of me. I think I might have posted them already.
A reasonably professional picture of me without the beard. Reasonably.
Befuddled as usual.
Mathematicians rock!
My mother actually does think I'm cool.
Me having a Soprano's moment.

The funny thing is, I think Erpy kind of does look like his avatar.
I think it's quite common for others to think of you as your avatar, the same way they might call you by your nick. Since humans are pretty superficial, it's probably a good idea to choose a nice-looking image to represent yourself. Also, if you keep changing it, not everyone may realize that you're the same person, so they're more likely to forget you.
I'm quite happy with my avatar (and nick). I think it sets the tone for my posts, and communicates a number of things efficiently. Also, it is distinctive enough to be recognizable, and it sort of kinda looks like me.
Actually, I'd probably rather that people saw me as just this disembodied grin than had actual photos of me.

You raise a very interesting point Snarky.
I've chosen a fairly unique, though not particularly nice-looking avatar, but I'm not really concerned with the hoi polloi associating it with my face (just certain Flemish cryptographers).
Nonetheless, I'd be interested to know how often people and their avatars are confused, insofar as confusion is possible.
I agree that humans are superficial, and wonder how many people have associated Spikey with Northstar, Kurdt with Graham, Erpy with Nash and (dare I say it) Jafar with Kirby.

I don't suppose I've chosen the most attractive avatar myself, but that's because I'm not trying very hard to be well-liked around here.Charlemagne wrote:You raise a very interesting point Snarky.

Of course, it's particularly easy to think of Erpy as this "Nash", because of the expressive portraits in his sig. Spikey's Northstar pictures, particularly the old one, make it fairly obvious that he's gay, which is another example of using your avatar to communicate something about yourself.Nonetheless, I'd be interested to know how often people and their avatars are confused, insofar as confusion is possible.

You haven't seen a picture of me in a while, probably because I don't like strangers looking at my face, but I know all of you so what the hell!

Edit: Changed picture, didn't like last one.

You have a high cutefactor, Broomie. If I may be so bold. If not, then bad luck cause I've said it already.
