wolfbane problem

when I leave the church and the wolf attacks me, no matter how I defend myself (sword, runaway, etc.) the bottle of wolfbane breaks. And it won't let me get the wolfbane after I get the tiara. I'm pretty sure I might need it, correct me if I'm wrong, how do I keep it from breaking?

Try defending yourself with the wolfbane then. Put it on prior to encountering the wolves on the crossroads.

wait a minute. is the wolfbane even neccessary? cause before when I didn't have it and the wolf attacked me, I was able to get away with out having the wolfbane on.

There are three solutions to the puzzle: fighting, running away, and the wolfbane. All work, but they give different numbers of points.

Yeah, I remember the first time I played through it, I didn't know the wolfbane existed. I didn't get a very good score overall.
