KQ2 restoring error
Since my last thread was locked I had to post here.

Tom helped me out and told me to remove the old save files and try again. After that, I've not encountered the bug again. However, I can tell you that it displayed different byte counts every time the loading error occured.

Tom said that a corrupt save file seemed to corrupt the others too, so for now I'll have to make regular backups of the save files to be on the safe side. It's not perfect, but it works for now... Anyway, I hope you find the problem eventually. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Re: KQ2 restoring error
Have you read the thread to EVERYONE WITH PROBLEMS?

If not, can you please read it thoruoughly and install the patch? Let us know when you've done that, as we can't fix these bug unless we know if this patch works or not, and nobody seems to be testing it.

Yup, I installed the patch. So far everything has worked fine. I've not had much time to play though, so I'll have to come back to you later...

Re: KQ2 restoring error
Ok, I've still encountered the error, but that was with either patch 1 or 2 (don't remember which one I got). I played all the way until I had the first stone, and had three working saved games. Then I saved two games after returning to Kolyma with the stone, but both caused the same problems as before. Either I got the error message about memory allocation or one that said something about the gui being corrupt (sorry, don't remember the exact message).

Anyway, I noted that the three working savegames were about 3.6 megabytes big, while the corrupt ones were about 100 kilobytes big. Don't know if that helps you, but I thought I'd mention it...

Now I've installed patch 3, and deleted all my old savegames. This is the third time I've had to start over from the beginning. Hopefully the problem will be gone now. I tried saving some files right in the beginning of the game, and they seem to work. I noted that now the working savegames were only about 200 kilobytes big, quite a bit smaller than my old ones...

Re: KQ2 restoring error
Yeah, sorry about this... it's a shame that none of the beta testers had such severe problems or we might have caught these problems prior to release.

Anyway, the patches did roughly this:

Patch 1: fix for one cause of the saving game crash
Patch 2: fix for game freezing up
Patch 3: fix for main cause of save game crash

so hopefully it should be ok now. This new version is more efficient with save game file sizes so they should be smaller, at least at the start of the game.

It's interesting to know that the corrupt ones were 100 kb though, sounds like it got cut off mid-save. Do let us know how you get on.
