Can you provide more detailed information on this? For example, a list of steps that we can follow to reproduce the problem?

Maybe I know what the problem is...
There is a limit for the amount of saved games you can have in one folder, when you reach it, the game starts to replace the last saved game in the current one you saved.

Dowlnloaded and installed patch after losing saved first occurred, but the problem continues to exist. It started prior to meeting mermaid and hs continued in the underwater sequence. It is not consistent, but the games were deleted from the KQ directory (could not even find them with Windows Explorer).

I save games in numeric sequence, and several were missing so numbers out of order. Has nothing to do with the slots provided - I copy them elsewhere when the directory is full.

If this is not clear, you may contact me

gamenuts@colba.net

Good Luck.

Are you saying some save games just disappeared?

You said you moved some save games out of the folder... if you do this, you must move all or none. If there is just one save game left, for example agssave.006, it will confuse the game and it might start overwriting the wrong games.

You can leave just one game left, but you must rename it to agssave.001 in order to stop the game getting confused.

Guess I haven't made my self clear - I make a backup when saved slots are filled. The saves disappeared from KQ folder.

Actually was playing with a friend at the time, and he is aware that I'd saved game because I reloaded them several times, and then they were gone.

I save as follows 001. a title, 002. another title in sequence. When I returned some were missing the latest save and others scattered.

I'm not new to computers and though can make mistakes I would not be writing if I'd moved the games, because I have on backup would just have reinstalled.

I assure you they disappeared.

I dont get you. It sure ain't a bug. One folder cant save more than (about!) 21 saved games. you have 001,002,003....021...when reaching 021 any new save game you make will replace the last one you make...I dont know..Well..It is all I know about this issue.
The only solution I know of: When reaching 21 saved games, CUT them to another folder.

That is exactly what I have done, in any even when the losses started to occur, the saved games slots were not filled.

I copied the saved games to another folder and started by saving at top again but continuing the numeric sequence. As I tried to explain if there were 21 saved game or whatever amount 001, 008, 116 might have disappeared, not all of them and not numerically.

Well, that's interesting.
Maybe it is a bug after all.
Maybe AGD2 is trying to figure it out this very minute.

very strange, because there is physically no code in AGS to delete save games - all it can do is overwrite existing ones. You did definatley refresh the folder before looking for missing games, right? By default when a file is updated explorer moves it to the end of the list.

sorry if this all sounds a bit patronising but this is one of the strangest problems I've ever heard of.

Sorry if I appeared impatient, not intentional just want to assure you that I'm not a novice and maybe didnt make myself clear.

This has never happend to me before, and it just did again. At Hagatha cave and had to do continue and restore several times, then they were gone. Not all but I had saved when arriving back to land, after talking to shop lady and arriving at cave. One left was back on land.

BTW this seems to happen only when I've restored several times. As I mentioned feel free to email me.

So if you don't save the game in between, but just keep restoring a game, do the games disappear then?

I lost all my saved games when I changed the resolution to 320x200. Don't know if it's a bug though, it tells me it can't use them because they were saved under a different interpreter.
However, the change did get rid of the slow speed and the echo I was hearing when changhing screens <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Well i think its common with some games that if save more than it can hold will delete them from the list but i could be wrong. Like in kq5 and kq6 if u fill the games up it will say saved games filled up cannot save any more.

The bottom line is that if you reach the limit of savegames you can save, then you will be notified that the current folder cannot hold any more savegames. Either save in another directory or overwrite existing savegames.

You CANNOT load savegames saved on a different resoulution. For example, if you save a game in 320x200 resolution and then try to load it when you are playing in 640x400 resoulution, then you won't be able to do so due to the different interpreters used.

And Dan1990, FF7 saves isn't the place to discuss it here. But try moving the savegames in the folder where it's suppose to be. And please don't dig up old threads. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

"Digging up" old threads in the Tech Forum isn't really as frowned upon as it is in the other forums. If someone is browsing the Tech Forum and finds a thread devoted to a certain problem that they have and they have tried all of the methods listed within the thread and their problem still exists, then it's noteworthy. That way, it's easier to see what has already been done to try to correct the problem and what still may be left before it is truly fixed.

As for your FF7 saves, well, I really wouldn't know how to help you! I have the PSX version myself, so the only thing I worry about is the dreaded "File is ruined" message when I go to load the game. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">

~Wolfgang
