bug report/issues...

Well, I've noticed soooo many people having problems with this game. So I figured I'd give the low down on how it worked for me. First off, I've played all the way thru the first version without any patches. I didn't have any save/replace game issues. And none of the lock ups, loops, or crashes everyone mentions (the merchant for example) Of all the hours I've put into the game I only had it lock up twice and it never happened again at either spot or anywhere else in the game. The only things I did notice where the few screens that had slow down problems and a few grammar/spelling error.
It may be possible that the majority of the people having all these issues are running Win XP, cause I've noticed lots of people have problems playing the old King's Quest's under XP, especially 5 and 6. Well I guess that about sums it up <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
Oh, by the way, I have been running all 8 of the King's Quest's plus the 2 Tierra remakes under Win 98 SE on an old pentium 2 with 128 megs of ram, 30 g harddrive, and an 8 meg graphics card, which I recently upgraded to 32 megs. They have all played thru perfectly for the exception of King's Quest 8 which I think is a corrupt file. So maybe people should consider dual booting there systems. That way they can have XP for their daily needs and Win 9x for their King's Quest needs. Hope this helps. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Thanks for the report. It's most likely not XP that's the problem, since I scripted and tested the entire game in XP without any major issues. It's mainly just old games that have trouble with XP, since they're DOS based and DOS is something that XP support properly.

However, AGS games are compiled specifically for Windows and use DirectX. The lockups that people have been experiencing are most likely due to the individual hardware peices (ie sound cards) installed in their systems which don't all work the same way that AGS (or DirectX?) expects them to. Some of our beta testers experienced lockups under Win98 too... so it's probably not a problem related directly to the user's operating system.

Well, I normally wouldn't say anything, but since you kind of said that like a question AGD2, I'll just fill you in <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> AGS definately isn't the one that has specific sound card support unless maybe AGS has 3d sound support because that's a seperate component of DirectX. Basically, DirectSound is the sound card, and DirectX automatically supports all major sound cards. That's one of the reasons why it's become so popular. Also, you'll notice that you hardly ever have to select your sound card with a DirectX application since it is automatic. Just to fill you in <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
