The witch is scary

Forget the wannabe scary games in 3D that are made these days, that witch, when she comes flying down to grab Graham, scares the heck out of me.

I think I was pretty darn scared by it as a small boy when I played the game for the first time too...
Anybody else scared for the witch?

Not so much these days but 14 years ago I was terrified of these agi games! In KQ1 the witch flying down was pretty scary, but what got me the most was the wolf, since he seemed to be the most swift to catch me. Then in kq4 the ogre/giant scared me heaps too. Oh, and the sarians in sq1... boy was I a wimp

I think it was just the horrid PC Speaker blaring out at you when a villain or bad guy appears. You'd just walk around and out of nowhere your PC would go "DOO DO DOO DO DO DOOOOOO!" with a text box saying "Oh no! It's a scary person, and he's for some reason going to get you, you better goto the next screen where he isn't programmed in to go after you."
Now, that was scary.

The worst part? The fact that you would HAVE to out run him at a point in the game, no advoiding it (You could advoid it via a protive spell or "The old edge of the screen trick" in past games.)
Manannan also had a reputation for doing that to... (Never realy played KQ3)
Alas, the don't make 'em like they used too...

That's one feature I plan on keeping in the remake.

"The old edge of the screen trick" in past games.
That's something I'd like people to fix in the remakes, so cheating bastards like me can't employ that trick anymore!

I always wondered whats up with some people never leaving certain screens. Maybe they were like the ageless Knight in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" who couldn't leave that one place in the Rock City(looked like Petra)

I think QFG games are the only ones where they actually follow u. I have no idea why they didn't do that in other games.

In the other games, you also only had the option of walking (not running). Walking through the large parts of the map with a monster chasing you would be rather annoying, especially if a new monster appears just as you escaped the old one.
There's also nothing you can do with the monsters except die or escape.

Hey, it was only dead like 13 days, duh.
In some countries, you have to be dead 31 days to be REAALY DEAD. Up until then, you're only MOSTLY DEAD.

So a degree of decaying is involved? Your body will have to rot for 31 days to be really useless. No, that can't be right, cause people get cremated all the time.

Between witches, the KQ2 witch scared me the most. Plus there was the wolf. But yeah, with the screaming of bad speakers and the game to tell you to run and hide before you die was pretty bad as well. Scared me when I was little.

The only thing that made me turn away from my computer screen was in Prince Of Persia, falling down on to the spikes.

Death scenes in Sierra games used to scare the crap out of me when I was younger, and as a result I totally refused to ever play them. Even got some pretty nasty nightmares out of em. These days I've gotten over my fear for the most part... however, unexpected deaths still scare me a bit. The organ playing over the death window in QFG1 when you get killed by the ghosts gets my skin crawling
And of course, the ever-so infamous "get touched by the Lord of the Dead" in KQ6 still gives me the screaming heebie-jeebies, especially with Alexander's face gone skeletonized.
I have come to appreciate the funny side of deaths over time though

Like "Down for the count?" in AGDI's KQ2 XD

Disturbing enough i find dying one of the most enjoyable and humourise parts of any game.

Seeing I played these games when I was 7, alot of stuff scared me.
Manannan.
Mordack's Castle was kinda creepy.
The Land of the Dead. (Especially the gate)
The witch's woods was pretty frightening.
The numerous ways to die in those original King's Quest games. Where every inch there'd be a death trap.
Though nothing was more frightening or more hideous to me than...
The Catacombs. They were very unpleasant. I didn't even mind watching them with someone else solving the puzzles. It's very odd.

Sorry about resurrecting old threads, but I could never forget the sudden death in QFG1, when you were standing in the goblin area and suddenly you heard the death music, without doing anything at all, and the message said a bug had killed you, there was nothing you could do to avoid it. Now THAT was scary.

I was scared of all the enemies in KQ1 and KQ2 (the first versions). It became engrained in my brain that when I was in areas with the cyan blue trees the wizard was gonna show up. I also stay away from the brown areas in the KQ1 remake as ogres and the like show up there. Always scared me. In KQ2 (original) there was one scene with a lake and a little island in the middle of it. I'd swim out there and wait for Hagatha to come so I knew where she was and she couldn't get me! lol

Yeah, I just finished KQ1 last night. The witch and the wolf were the scariest for me, especially when you were sneaking around the witch's house and she came in.
Oh, and in KQ2, Little Red Riding Hood creeped me out the first time I heard her. Something about her voice sounded kinda possessed, and I was half expecting her eyes to glow or her head the start spinning. :evil
