When it comes to music, the Brits have always been the greatest at supplying it.

Oh and whoever thinks this is my opinion, tis not.

I listen to of course, Muse.
Pink Floyd
Queen
The Beatles
Black Sabbath
Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix

But broomie, 3 out of the 6 people you mentioned were from America...

Gee, where to start? Nirvana, Green Day, Soundgarden, Gin Blossoms, Offspring, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Ramones, Audioslave, RL Burnside, Muddy Waters, The Impossibles, The Toadies, Lynyrd Skynyrd, OAR, 311, The Cure, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr...

...and those are only the KNOWN bands! Don't even get me started about my local tastes. 30footFALL, Opposite Day, Dynamite Boy, The Burden Brothers, Face Plant, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, Honeybrowne, Homegrown...

Mike Oldfield (greatest musician ever), Jean Michel Jarre, Enigma, Tangerine Dream, Delirious, U2, and a lot of video game and movie soundtracks. Of movie composers I like John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Alan Silvistri, Mark Snow, Roy Hay, and Don Davis.

Cross Canadian Ragweed is my sister's favorite band. I'd say about half of the music played at her wedding reception was by them.

I'm sorry, I misspoke...I moreso meant they had to come to America to actually do anything of note. :D MWAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Navy, my roommate my freshman year of college knew them when he was one of about 15 fans of theirs. I couldn't count how many little dives I saw them in. By about the 3rd time I saw them, their Purple album came out and they were huge. It was good times. Their home is literally a 15-minute drive South of where I go to school. I hung out with them at their house before. It was quite a fun time. They're some really nice guys.

Goodness, I really like many different styles of music, so it'd be hard to list all of my favorite composers/artists. I'll try anyway, though.

As far as Classical goes, I'd say Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Pachelbel, and Johannes Brahms.

As far as contemporary/rock goes, R.E.M., Simple Plan, Third Eye Blind, Fastball, Smash Mouth, the Pogues, the Cranberries, Dave Matthews, Joe Satriani, Green Day, MxPx, Nirvana, Blink 182, and U2.

As far as oldies, John Denver, Don McClean, the Beach Boys, and Johnny Rivers.

Movie soundtracks, which is what I listen to most of, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, and Klaus Badelt. Granted, there are many more, but those are my favorites...

Goodness! I feel so alone here! Does ANYONE else listen to indie rock? It used to be a very individual thing around here, but lately indie rock is making a huge impact in the seattle area. It's kind of odd, because a lot of it comes from seattle, but it's just making it to the radio. I guess it's annoying though, cause I like listening to a bunch of music no one's ever heard of.

Well, I don't really know for sure what's indie rock and what's not (unless it means the bands have to be independly produced?), but I listen to good, alternative music, and not the mainstream.

Muzlack,

I just don't really dig the scene. It's all about overly whiny skinny kids dressing up in girls jeans with flashy belts and BC glasses. Not really my scene; BUT the music isn't bad at all. It's just an offshoot of the original punk (1976) scene and it's later iterations, and for all it's non conformist dogma, it's really as much about the look and fashion as crap-pop is. (Britney Spears, Destiny's Child, Black-Eyed Peas)

But if that's what you dig, man, go with it. I judge people for who they are, and most so-called Emo kids are good people. I just can't stand trends, even if they're considered "underground".

Bt,

haha. you're totally right, though. I guess i'm not as emo as the scenesters that live around here that look like they're anorexic, but the whole style is really beginning to catch on here, which is kind of annoying.

I love the music.

I used to hit up the Warped Tour every year when I was in middle school and high school. Now, if I ever go I just want to take a Tommy Gun to everybody around me. I'm not an emo/screamo/whatever you wanna call it fan. Post-Blink poppy punk just isn't my thing, and I associate the look with this one guy I wanna hit every time I see him, so on the whole I'm not into Emo.

Though, I did hear a funny joke once: "How many Emo kids does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" "@#$% it, let 'em cry in the dark!"

See! And that's what's important, man! The music isn't bad; it's usually well written, it has harmony, melody and good chord changes, and the beat is decent. The Lyrics are usually honest and heartfelt, too. So right on.

I guess I though "indie" just meant "independent," as in not on a major record label.

What are some examples of Emo that I may have heard of?

My five favorites in no particular order:

1) Prince
2) The artist formerly known as Prince
3) Prince and the New Power Generation
4) Prince and the Revolution
5) Uh . . . Prince
