I was scanning through the himalaya studios pages and found myself wondering what exactly made the experience of climbing that popular African mountain such a spectacular feat as the texts would have us believe.

Did it actually consist of hanging from drops by roaps and free climbing small sections of mountainface, or was it actually just a very extended hike up a very big mountain? I've done my share of 'summit-hiking', so I know how spectacular it can feel, but I don't think it's this massive conquering of nature that the description has us believe it is.

Well... it is big... and it is in central Africa.

But, it will probably interest climbing-enthusiasts more than it would us. :)

While never having climbed a mountain, I am still quite enthralled by how many of them look. Just the whole majestic snow-capped peaks and what-not

Nah, a massive conquering of nature? Ask the people of Nagasaki.

I actually wondered that myself, but questions like that asked by someone at IA are usually seen as attacks.

This mountain was the second step in a seven step goal. I've heard horror stories about Mt. Everest. :|
