Re: Hype shrouded in mystery
In response to the OP: I'm sure we'd all love tentative dates, but let's be honest... how many people would jump on AGDI's back if they didn't release their free game on a date they announced might or might not be the day? Much as I'd love to have faith in people, just look at some of the posts that...

Re: QG4 Problem... and it's NOT the infamous Error 52
Yeah, once you familiarize yourself with setting up a .conf file (mostly it's just copying the original conf file and then adding in the commands to navigate to the game) you can create a shortcut and click & go. DOSBox is just far more powerful. VDMSound emulates, well, sound; everything else a...

It's a shame Vivendi hasn't republished QFG like it has other Sierra series. Hopefully they'll rethink that at some point.

I think it sounds promising. A choice between philosophies would be a heck of a lot more interesting to me than "will I kill this monster with magic, or a sword?"JustLuke32 wrote:Or maybe I'm talking a load of gibberish.

Re: Needs to be made: QfG-style game with an East Asian setting
Are you saying you would want to be able to have a character wield Magic, and also be a Thief? Or be a Fighter and be able to cast spells? Indeed. More than that, I'm saying that if that's allowed, character classes lose their meaning - so why have them? If you can just trigger things based off of ...

Meh. No offense, but my interest in seeing The Dark Knight again has little to do with box office records.
Besides, BT is right, I have nothing against Titanic holding its spot. It's not like Doom holds the top spot or anything. Then I might be tempted to shell out cash.

Re: Is it a sin to have never played QFG2EGA?
:lol Quite true. Though I do find grinding QFG1 helps with more than a boner. (Heh, graphic imagery not intended.) Since QFG2 has fixed events rather than letting you take things on at your leisure, it's not always possible to just drop everything and train if you find a weakness in your skills. A s...

Re: Needs to be made: QfG-style game with an East Asian setting
I kinda agree that official classes could be dumped in favor of simply programming it by the skillset available to the character. Assuming, of course, that things aren't going to go the other way, with "pure" classes to which you cannot add skills. That doesn't mean that professions and me...

Re: Is it a sin to have never played QFG2EGA?
Though, to be fair to QFG, the RPG element definitely diminishes in importance as the series goes on. Grinding is probably the biggest element in 1, but as time goes on, the plots & puzzles get a big bigger and your minimum starting stats become a greater percentage of the ceiling.

Re: Firefox 3.0 Released Today!!
As a tabbed browsing fan, I have noticed a speed improvement with FF3. Flash can still mess up tabbed browsing quicker than anything, but if you're loading non-flash pages (or have flashblock ) you can have tons of pages open without worrying about memory and performance as much.

Re: Does Quest for Glory 5 Suck?
The voice acting wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. My biggest gripe with it was that it wasn't all that consistent with QFG4. Bring back Jennifer Hale! Get proper Katrina recordings for 5! (While we're chasing impossibilities, let's get John Rhys-Davies to do the QFG5 narration. ;)) I actually l...

Re: QFG1VGA and climbing
I find climbing back and forth over the city gate at night a good way to raise it after the tree has become slow to help in the 80s. (You could also try the castle wall, but I don't know that there's any real difference there.) Nevertheless, even there, you can't quite get it to 100, only to the mid...

Re: How do you improve Intelligence and luck
Intelligence is really hard to raise for pure Fighters. As Erpy says, dodging and parrying a lot is the only way if you don't have thief/mage skills. I've never hard to much trouble raising luck, it usually seems to keep on track with my other skills, so I just practice other stuff. Mind you, I'm no...

Re: Losing honor points on purpose in QFG 2 vga remake
I recall reading that there are also a few specific acts you MUST do to become a paladin in QFG3, it's not only points based. IIRC you can avoid Paladinhood if you refuse to swear your honor to the peace mission. (What's more apt for a fighter than not believing in peace? )

Yes, I realize that would be far too much of a departure. It would have been pretty funny to see the hero pull out a pogo stick, though.

Are you implying, navynuke, that Erpy has ensured that the combat in QFG2VGA, one of my favorite games, has been merged with that of Commander Keen, THE game that introduced me to games? My anticipation for QFG2VGA just went up a couple dozen notches. :eek ;) (I realize it's not going to be a sidesc...

Thing is though, we still have a number of "correspondence school" updates to go through.
Methinks they're going to take their time making sure the mirrors are set up right, and in enough numbers, and such.

Ah, so it's literally just a branch of Vivendi's publishing, then? (Or is it even just a label they slap on some games now?)
Regardless, I'm guessing that means rights probably stay with Vivendi.

Activizzard selling Sierra?

Anyone know if this would also mean selling off the old Sierra licenses like King's Quest and QFG, or do you think this is strictly a matter of selling off development houses?

I don't see what everybody likes about Grim Fandango. The Dark Knight is great. Two thumbs up - and I don't give two to a movie lightly. As to whether or not IMAX is a big deal, depends on why you're seeing the movie. If you love the action sequences I'm sure it'll be a better experience. Personally, I'm there more for the characters and the melodrama,...

But the problem is that they'd want us to utilize a very simplified, dumbed-down interface with only a single icon that highlights when you move it over 'important' areas of the screen. When I first read that I pictured something like Full Throttle or The Longest Journey, which doesn't sound half b...

I would assume they're looking for something to let them "quit their dayjobs," or at least to pay all the other people they'd be hiring, in order to ensure that the project has the money to go to completion before they start really investing in it. So I doubt they're taking donations, unle...
