If patches don't help, maybe switching between arcade/strategy modes will help, it worked for me once. You could also try using a lower detail setting or a lower speed setting.

I know that DOS-mode doesn't help with speed related problems but it does help to check whether Windows is interfering. You are assuming that the problem is most likely a speed related problem, well if it were, disabling the CPU cache is a miracle cure because the computer (Pentium II) goes from 350...

Okay, I solved the problem by changing the combat mode from strategy to arcade, since disabling the internal CPU cache or running in dos-mode did not help I doubt that dos-box would have helped. This is most likely a bug that would have occured on any computer old or new.

I never bothered with the autosave. It always screwed up my game for some reason. When the error first occured, I had not yet saved my game, it happened when I had just started playing. After the game crashed I restored the autosave game (the game was saved just before the hero is attacked by a zom...

The link you posted links to a website which has the same patches for download as the ones I already have. Dosbox won't be of any help to me since I use Microsoft Windows 98. I could try the low details + high games speed trick you suggested... The crash I'm experiencing happens each time I restore ...

Quest for Glory 4 cd version bug (Error 49)

While playing Quest for Glory 4 cd version (patched with patches I downloaded at http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arcade/7435/Goodies/Downloads.htm ) I got this nice little error:   We're sorry, you have encountered an internal game error.  Please restart your game and restore a saved game.  If ...

Complicated? If you mean it's clumsy to enter/edit strings in the fashion I described above, I used a simple Quick Basic program that I wrote in about 30 minutes to convert an ordinary string into that series of Chr$ functions. Also, it would probably best to only obscure those strings that contain ...

Cheaters? What do you mean, adeyke? Any way, here is a tip for any programmers here: To prevent people from finding string data in executables you could convert an executable to a compressed executable that extracts itself to memory each time it is executed. (I believe Pklite was used to compress ce...

I can't find any paladin character files on my Quest for Glory anthology cd. I did find the following character files: GLORY1.SAV GLORY2.SAV GLORY3.SAV SHADOWS.SAV There was a information file in the same directory as the character files which read: The files in the \SAVES\IMPORTS directory on the Q...

Interesting QFG4 bug->

Normally you can't select the paladin class when creating a new character in QFG4 (Quest for Glory IV Shadows of Darkness) but when importing a character from a previous QFG game the game will ask you to confirm if the class specified in the character file is the correct one. You can always select p...

I like several others suspected that the contest was an april fools prank and even if it wasn't I didn't feel like wasting a lot of time trying to win. I did give the Slot Machine program a quick look though. I used a viewer that allows you to see the plain binary contens of a file. I used the viewe...
The two golden items are interchangeable, so there isn't actually a problem with giving the golden needle to the fortune teller.  You'd then just use the item from the temple where you'd normally use the needle.
I don't know if that works in KQ V but, computer games aren't always...

Okay, thanks for the links, some seem to be very useful. I am not really interested in game engine, authoring system or programming languag...

it's just there because it's THERE, man. I thought of that myself as well, but that seems like a poor reason. BTW: does it bother you that I asked if any one here knows what that village is all about? Perhaps the village was added to help give the scene a greater sense of majesty and immensity, by ...

Question about King's Quest V, maybe some one knows a bit...

... more about this. While playing King's Quest V, I noticed something odd: when Graham is captured by some giant bird in the mountains you see a village in the foreground just before Graham is dropped in the bird's nest. The strange thing is that the village doesn't play any role in the game. Is th...

If you would make an adventure game...

...What would it be about? I've been thinking for quite a while that it woud be nice to make a simple adventure game myself, but, I can't really decide what it should be about. Yes, I know making adventure games is a lot of work, requires different skills such as story writing (which I'm no good at)...

I wasn't directing my message at any one specifically, there were several people who said they felt depressed in this thread. I thought it might be useful for the people living where it is winter currently to point out  that a lack of daylight might be causing them to feel depressed.
