For a while, I've been planning to play some old videogames in the order of release. I have been searching unsuccessfully for a website with a (complete as possible) list of videogames by release date/year or a database that I can search by date. Does any such place exist?

Well, the most famous abandonware site has one, but I'm not going to link to that here because of forum rules. However, you could always try WikiPedia.

IIRC, Mobygames have the information you need.

I had tried Wikipedia but couldn't find the right area of their site. However, Mobygames does have the info (at least back to '77).

The right article on Wikipedia would be the article for each game. Or possibly "List of XYZ games", where XYZ is the platform.
