Mystery of Time and Space

I mentioned this game here about 2 years ago but there's a few new users here now and I think Brainiac especially will dig this, if he hasnt already heard of it before.

Its basically an adventure/puzzle/riddle/escape the room kinda game but its really hard and also really good!!

Can you beat it?? I have  :hat

Game systems

#1128 Post by The Avatar » Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:55 pm

Well, I only have a PS2, which was a gift for my birthday last year.

Games I own for PS2:
       Bard's Tale -
This was the last game I bought.. a dissapointment, because I came to find out it used the same engine as a Lord of The Rings game I rented last year, an engine I've found intuitively ineffective.  I can never zoom in close enough to what's going on to enjoy the 'great graphics', and the fighting takes a forefront, something I don't like in what's supposed to be a Role-Playing game.

       ATX -
Whatever that off-road 4-wheeling racing game is called, it came with the system and actually is kinda fun, though I don't think there's enough music selection to really give it my own character, so I always feel like I'm playing somebody else's game when I put it in.

       Harry Potter movie games -
Not even worth turning on.  the interface was so awkward to make my spells successfully, that I just got frustrated and gave up on the whole game.  A game made up of mini-games isn't a real game.  I'm not impressed with these, and I'd rather watch the movies.. where's that DVD anyway?

      Dark Alliance II -
Ahh... now this is a game I'm impressed with.  I finished the game and then was able to play as Drizzt!  The stories behind each of the character selections are actually interesting, and the locations feel vibrant and well thought out.  I'd like to play the original Dark Alliance.  Do you know of more games similar to this one?  Or am I doomed to use my PS2 forever as a DVD player.  hehe.. atleast it has an alternate use.

And I think that's all my PS2 games.  I love playing the old Wonerboy Titles on my Sega Mastersystem.  Wonderboy in Monsterland is my favorite, followed closely by Wonderboy III:  The Dragon's Trap.  I've always thought about mixing some role-playing and story elements of the Wonderboy games with the adventure elements from King's Quest.. and creating my own unique game out of the mix.

Wonderboy....was that game also released in arcade halls? I remember playing a game named like that for ages, I think.

Don't get my started on Wonderboy. I remember Wonderboy 3 being one of my childhood Sega games. Pretty sad when you look back those days. :(

Mystery of Space and Time

#1131 Post by The Avatar » Fri Dec 16, 2005 3:53 am

Now this game has great potential.  Mystery of Space and Time is a refreshing game to play, like the text adventures of the old days..

I remember you mentioning it way back when Angelus, but when I couldn't play past level 3, I gave up and haven't looked at it since until now.  Today, I beat it of course, but I still think that third room should be fixed.  The 'Bridge Part' is not an easy spot to find, and it's kind of necessary to get to the puzzle!  find-and-click hotspots are always what stop me up in adventure games.. <grumble>

Anyhow, I didn't have any trouble with any of the puzzles, some of them were actually kind of fun, like the green screen, and mailing in for a new valve handle by tracing the security guard's handwriting!  very nice puzzles!

I mentioned my gripes in the guest book.. but I'd like to see the character on screen navigating through the rooms, and I'd like to see more story and character interaction.. and fewer 'find the key for the cabinet' puzzles.. they don't take any thought and are just pointless filler that give adventure games a bad name!

Wonderboy!

#1132 Post by The Avatar » Fri Dec 16, 2005 3:59 am

Oh, yes Spikey!  Most of Sega's games were developed for arcade halls, including Wonderboy.

I must say, the mouse you could turn into which allowed you to walk on 'mouse blocks' (even up walls and upside down!) in Wonderboy III was just awesome!  Each transformation had its own significant uses - a fun adventure I'll never forget.  I'd love to create that kind of gameplay with modern 3d technology!

Yes, I remember you mentioning it a while back and I remember fooling around with it a little.  Unfortunately, my undergraduate studies were gettting heavy at the time and I never had the time to go back to it and eventually forgot about it.  Guess I'll have to get on it again!

Salescharts for Japan....

Hardware - Week Ending 18th December 2005

DS: 408,770
PSP: 95,689
PS2: 55,342
GBASP: 19,098
GC: 17,849
GBM: 14,432
Xbox 360: 8,623
GBA: 416
Xbox: 182

Nintendo DS starts steamrolling. Nintendo DS managed to sell more units in the last week than every other system's sales combined. That is bizarre.

Software - Week Ending 18th December 2005

1. Tales of Abyss PS2: 405 000 / 405 000 New
2. Animal Crossing DS: 184 000 / 761 000
3. Mario Kart DS: 146 000 / 365 000
4. Final Fantasy IV GBM: 97 000 / 97 000 New
5. Tamagotchi DS 92 000: / 565 000
6. Pokemon Dungeon Red GBA: 85 000 / 356 000
7. Pokemon Dungeon Blue DS: 80 000 / 354 000
8. Adult Brain training DS: 57 000 / 911 000
9. Rogue Galaxy PS2: 51 000 / 288 000
10. Brain training DS: 48 000 / 773 000

Yes, PlayStation 2 is on top, but Nintendo DS clearly is the overkill on this list.

Spikes

Haha! PSP sucks admit it. I'm not getting one anymore. They may seem cool and sexy but I'll wait abit. What Sony fail to realize is that the console products they make aren't actually games consoles. They're more like all in one machines, where you can play DVD's and music aswell as games. Nintendo stay true to the term games console and just makes games consoles which probably earn my respect out of all of them.

I'm not really a games person that much anymore, unless it's a good old adventure. Yet DAMN boy am I getting my hands on a Nintendo Revolution!

Upcoming purchases

#1136 Post by Brainiac » Sat Dec 24, 2005 8:48 pm

So far, I know I'll most likely get a PS3 relatively soon after it's launch. Revolution has my attention, but I want to know more about the retro game system first; if it's pay-to-play even if I still own the old carts, I may pass.  XBox 360, despite its gorgeous hardware and graphical capabilities, has yet to endear me.

As to handhelds, the GBA/SP/Micro still has life, so I'm in no rush to get a new one.  That's actually a good thing for me because, frankly, at this point there are several titles on both PSP and DS that would validate buying the system for me.  I still think the prices are too high, though.

Yea I have to admit, the DS has outsold the PSP!!

But when you look at the figures the DS only outsold in November by 20,000 units. Couple together hefty PSP shortages and the fact that the PSP is more than double the cost of the DS who knows what the real profit/sales numbers could be.

I think the only way to really tell whats happening with the DS vs PSP war will be in the long term 1-3 years from now.

But I admit the DS is alot stronger (sales wise) than I thought.

But you simply cannot beat (in my opinon) GTA, Monkey Island 1,2,3 and Broken Sword 1,2 and Simon 1 & 2 in portable form not to mention whole movies either from UMD or Memstick and Snes, Genesis/Megadrive emulators.

Although Mario Kart DS is looking mighty sweeet!!

True, but the PSP is alot more capable of running ScummVM and on my 2GB memory stick you can fit alot of SCUMM games on it.

I'd like to see a DS even try and run Curse of Monkey Island or Broken Sword 1 & 2.

Still its a cool app if you have a DS and the touch screen interface is a nice bonus!

I just prefer running those games at 100% speed in widescreen and having multiple full cd games in my pocket.

True, and I'm not on either side. I'm still thinking about getting a PSP. I get paid on the 5th, that's £500 in my pocket so you never know. I just may get it.

I don't have either. There are no games the DS or PSP has that I really really want. Yeah, maybe Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. When there will be a Fire Emblem for the DS I'll rush to the stores of course.

You'd best stop posting everywhere and stop asking questions about where to find free games or you're going to get yourself banned. Follow this link to BUY it (probably cheap): http://www.ebay.com/

My brother saw a preview of this game a while back, said he was looking forward to it. I didn't think it was adventure though! Will have to watch for it!
