Hey everybody, i know this isnt exactly dealing with the same question but QG4 help seemed the perfect title to help me under..... QG4, personally one of my favorites, is a wonderful game that i still own and love to play...but there is one problem... as you all know its probably also one of the most bugged games, and to finish the game you need to get to a very bugged section.....the monks tomb... Now, i know you can start the game already having it, but i like being the paladin, and i like to go from game one to five with the same character, can anyone help me on how to get this game working with an imported character? thanks for listenting
I don't know too much about the bugs other than the fact that you could usually find a way around them. I usually did this by trying another characters solution. In Quest for Glory if you played from 1 to 4 you could pretty much make a super character if you were willing to work towards it. This was done pretty much by starting one and adding magic and then every game you just add a new skill. At the end of two you find a Genie that as I recall can grant you a wish to increase a skill and if I remember correctly will raise one you don't even have. Just have to insure you do the puzzles relating to pallys properly. Having the skills of multiple chars allows you to choose your solution in "most" cases.
As an example at the beginning of 4 with the gooey path that your character slides down I know most people run into the bug where they can't go down it without a glitch. However someone with magic as I recall can use Trigger on the obelisk and cause it to fall and walk safely down. As for the monks tomb is that the area at the end of the game? I don't recall ever having any problems with that area personally.
P.S. if your playing a pally in QFG4 don't forget to get the pally sword
Flaming swords are awesome.
Sorry I havent played these games in a long time so some of my info might be a bit sparse but I am pretty sure it should all be accurate.
The Mad Monk's Tomb is out in the middle of the swamp. It's used to get one of the rituals (Bone I believe?)
In order to bypass most of the bugs, you should use DosBox. However, you can get past the Slippery Slope/Error 42 bug using this strategy:
1. On exiting the mouth of the cave walk over to where the slippery slope is. Save your game.
2. Walk up to the goo and it will say that the slope is very slippery. Put the speed up to the fastest setting.
3. Take very small steps until your Hero slides down the slope. You should have made it down without triggering the error. If not and you have magic, you can use Trigger the Obelisk.
To get through the Swamp/Error 52 bug, you will have to run DosBox. I think 10000 cycles should work, but you'll want to test what speeds are good for you.
Good luck!

another quick help question since once again i've been playing qfg IV, my character is a paladin and therefore i have the spell ability to heal... but i'm not supposed to be able to use magic. Thats great and all except when i talk to the mad doctor about magic i learn the glide spell, and when i get into a fight i automatically shoot off magic before i get a chance to do anything and this causes an error and the screen to freeze up and the game to be canceled out of. Any ideas around the situation and for me still to be able to fight monsters?

alright eveyone, you've all helped me very much and i have successfully completed qfg IV with my paladin, yet once more i've hit a snag. I've come so far just to find out after i transfer my characters save file the shadows.sav to imports on qfg V it says that there was a problem importing it and to make sure its not a saved game that is too large. It is my characters saved file and its only 267 bytes, any suggestions on getting it to work, oh and i can get my qfg III .sav file to work on it just not four

Oy, I'd say that you've encountered the old QFGIV import bug. It prevents you from importing a Hero from QFGIV into 5. I think there's a patch somewhere, I think this site has it under the downloads section. Hope this helps.
