Do any other girls like the QFG games?
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I'm wondering...am I the only girl who likes the QFG games?
Re: Do any other girls like the QFG games?
Milan Easton did a lot of the artwork of Quest For Glory 2 VGA and I've heard that she is a woman.
But after seven years of development hell, I don't know if she still enjoys the series.

Yes. The only one in the world in fact. :P
I'm just kidding.
My sister and I grew up with these games, so there's two if you're making a list. I think it's safe to say that, in this day and age, there are girls following every type of game.

Dr. Jones:
Well as soon they make the proper accessories...
Liz: Granted there might not be many of us on this forum. I can't remember any other girls posting when we were all showing off our certificates, but it's hard to tell from usernames.

Re: Do any other girls like the QFG games?
There are proper accesories already, but not many women are willing to enter the men's bathroom where the games are installed just to give it a try.
VampD3 is a girl too, or so I think. You can never be sure on the internet.

I don't mean to sound all mushy, but I think it's sweet when the character asks Shameen about Shema and he says "There is none in all Shapeir to compare to my beautiful and wonderous mate" (something like that).

Dr. Jones:
I think you're confusing ' not willing' with 'not legal'.
Although I admit I'm not sure of the actual ramifications for entering the wrong bathroom, but I know you can get kicked out of the bar.
I don't trust the internet to be honest about gender. I wouldn't even trust myself, but I've known me most of my life so I don't think I'm lying.
Liz:
Ergh sorry, I'm a chick but if you're looking for someone else to swoon over romantic lines in the games, then I'm not your girl. Sorry. I prefer to play the game thinking that Dr. Nathan McBadass (my heroic thief) just took down a troll with a scalpel and a smile.

Oh, I'm not looking for someone to "swoon over" with. I was just saying that about that one line. That's why I said "I don't mean to sound all mushy."Lady Pyro wrote:Ergh sorry, I'm a chick but if you're looking for someone else to swoon over romantic lines in the games, then I'm not your girl. Re: Do any other girls like the QFG games?
"Quest for More Glory" (probably the most active QFG community still around in these parts) was founded and is maintained by two females. What more do you need to know? (there's a couple more females on their board too)

Okay, we didn't manage to muster up a large list, but there are a few others.

Er Well that might be pushing it. But what I mean is, don't get discouraged if it sometimes feels like you're the only girl in the world who like _____ (<-- fill in blank with nerdy element 'X'). There's usually at least one of us on every forum, lurking in every chat or loitering around every comic shop.
If you're anything like me (as I assume all girls are :P ) then you've had your fair share of guys trying to scare you away from 'their' hobbies, and it takes a strong character to push through that crap and hold your ground. But remember, the more of us who do it, the more girls will see us there and think 'Oh, maybe it IS okay if I go into that games store'.
Orrr there's a chance you've never had to put up with any of that and was just curious about the male to female ratio for this particular fandom.
Either way, welcome aboard!

What? I thought Graphic Adventures have always been a redoubt for female gamers, as they don't differ too much from books and the player base is usually more educated. Maybe you would have trouble finding girls that enjoy other genres, but not on this one.

Re: Do any other girls like the QFG games?
I dunno, every time I hook up with my female gamer friends we always end up shooting Hookers, Zombies or Monkeys.
Of course I've only ever had one other friend really into Adventure games (and he was a guy. The hours we spent on Siberia, only to have it corrupt on us...ugh I shudder at the memory) so I might just be hanging out with the wrong crowd.

I for one have always been in favor of women getting enjoyment from classically geeky pursuits.
After all, you all are confusing enough to us already, so it's good to have some common ground.

Shhh don't tell anyone but: Girls confuse me too. There's a lot of 'hidden messages' in normal conversation that I'm just no good at picking up on. I'm glad I don't date them, I think it would drive me mad :PBrainiac wrote:I for one have always been in favor of women getting enjoyment from classically geeky pursuits.

Fun to game and drink with though.

Re: Do any other girls like the QFG games?
Well... Hero6 has had somewhere between 300 and 400 members, and about half of them were girls (even a few older ladies
).
Strangely, the only department in which there weren't many girls was the programming department, but there are a number of factors that could have influenced that as well.

I have played and loved the Quest for Glory games since I was 8. Even after their programming became obsolete, I'd still try to play them on the newer computers (much to my dad's consternation).

Me! I love the QFG games...I can't believe I only just found this site.

Welcome Bridget.
The thing is, on the net, it is very difficult to tell who's guys and who gals.
(I have a few funny instances at Hero6 in mind, which I'm not gonna tell)

And even those of use who advertise our genders in our usernames....well, you can never be sure.
