add/remove programs from your computer

why do you have to use that install program? why not just make it like chris made ags so you can split it into multiple files? a batch file or something else you could just as easily program could install it nicely for you.<br><br>second why does it have to be put into add/remove programs from your computer. why can't it be like the old sierra games and just nicely install itself to your HD where you can delete it simply? i hate a million things crowding up windows and sticking their junk all over the place. I gotta admit an installation utility DOES give it a certain "air" of profesionalism. <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :lol --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <br><br>But really, I think an installation procedure is more user-friendly than a batch-file.<br><br>By the way: the windows-versions of the old-Sierra games had this annoying thing called Sierra Utilities which made system tests that failed to recognize advanced hardware and when you removed Sierra utilities it SIMPLY REMOVED THE ENTIRE SIERRA-FOLDER ON YOUR HARD DRIVE INCLUDING DOS VERSIONS OF OTHER ADVENTURES. Erpy said! We could have made it it so KQVGA doesn't go into the installed programs list, but then a lot of people who aren't computer literate might have trouble getting rid of it. The install program automatically adds KQVGA to the list of installed programs if you build an uninstall.exe program with it. Secondly, If we ever need to make small patches and updates for our games, then I think they'd need to all be built with the same installer in order for the patch file to work. Thirdly, multiple files are just plain messy. <p></p><i></i>

The installer seems to install an uninstall option to the start menu, but not a shortcut to the game itself. I'm sure most people would like to play such an excellent game instead of uninstalling it... <p></p><i></i>

(after taking an emergency shower...)<br><br>Now that you mention it, Adeyke, I noticed that too. Perhaps it was fixed already in the second version of the game, but in case it isn't: A shortcut to the game and setup in the start menu folder would be a welcome addition. <p></p><i></i>

oh god no don't go making shortcuts everywhere i don't want them, especially don't make more folders in the start menu. a shortcut on the desktop is much easier. install programs today are much too arrogant. <p></p><i></i>

That's really a matter of taste. I, for example, hate having my entire desktop filled with icons. I prefer an extra group in the start menu to three extra icons on the desktop. (game, setup,uninstall) Then again, wasn't there a menu that included all three options mentioned above? (some kind of autorun menu or something)<br><br>But many installation utilities these days ask whether you want an icon on the desktop and whether or not you want to put a folder in the start menu. <p></p><i></i>

I never have shortcuts on my desktop. I do, however, use my start menu for such things and I think it's okay for installers to put shortcuts there (though I always have to clean it up afterwards).<br><br>KQ1VGA's installer program is flawed, though. It makes only the uninstall shortcut, in start menu/programs. I always delete such shortcuts and use the add/remove programs in the control panel for that. But I suppose some people prefer to use those shortcuts... However, there isn't a shortcut to the game itself. So those poor computer-illiterate people who can't find the control panel would still have to know to go to the KQVGA directory and run kqvga.exe . I think this is quite backwards. And I seriously doubt that many users actually want their top-level start menu to be filled of nothing but uninstallers.<br><br>Of course, the best option would be to have an extra 'page' in the installer that lets you choose what shortcuts you want... <p></p><i></i>

Yes, I noticed this too. The installer doesn't add a "Run kqvga" shortcut to the start menu, meaning that the user has to manually navigate explorer to where they installed the game in order to run it - the average dumb user may not be able to work this out.<br> <p></p><i></i>
