Re: why was.........
In the original AGI version of KQ2, the werewolf would periodically be in grandma's house instead of grandma, so that's where that came from. The wolfsbane was under her pillow because she knew of the Brotherhood and their dark dealings and needed some way to protect herself from them, and since a sword or other type of weapon would be a bit much for grandma to handle, she opted for a magical potion that wards off wolves.

~Wolfgang

other besides...
Other besides it was in the original, what other reason would the wolf be in Grandma's house?

Little Red Riding Hood
That whole scenario (the basket of goodies, the girl in the red cloak, grandma's house, the big bad wolf, etc.) is all part of the story of Little Red Riding Hood. In the original (KQ2), Possum was actually called Little Red Riding Hood and she was looking for a basket of goodies to give to grandma, who was sick, but along the way she had to be wary of the Big Bad Wolf. So the story goes anyway. At any rate, Little Red Riding Hood went into grandma's house, only to find the wolf dressed up in grandma's clothes and hiding in her bed. You may have heard "What big eyes you have" and "The better to see you with" in your lifetime...well those came from the story of Little Red Riding Hood. That's one of the things that Red said to the wolf (disguised as grandma). I believe, in the end of the original version of Little Red Riding Hood anyway, the wolf ended up eating Red, but it was later changed into a happier ending.

~Wolfgang

Wolfsbane
You mean in the original KQ2 or Tierra's remake? In the original it's like I said regarding the story of Little Red Riding Hood. In the remake the wolf is put in grandma's bed to guard the bottle of wolfsbane that the brotherhood had lost (they were able to track it down) and to prevent Graham from getting it and using it on them. You'll notice that Graham only has a small window of opportunity to get the wolfsbane ointment between when grandma leaves her bed and when the wolf appears, which means that the wolves hadn't yet located the missing vial. Once they locate it (after Graham has gotten the tiara), they'll send a sentry to stay in grandma's bed to guard it (even if Graham had already taken it...the wolves still think that it's somewhere in grandma's house).

~Wolfgang

Re: But...
Another possibility is that one of the monks saw Graham leave the house wearing Caldaur's cloak and realized Caldaur's family lived there. They followed Graham and after they saw him entering the castle, they went back to report to the head monk, who broke into the cottage to get to Grandma and Possum. Just before he arrived at the cottage, Caldaur had already taken his family to the castle.

Other than that, it's a mere reference to the original KQ2.

By the way, not all events in a game are always explained in detail. The designers often leave it to the imagination of the player to figure out what happened and to fill holes in the story.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

We only have ten fingers (each). We can't fill EVERY hole!

Re: But...
Well, if I may offer an explanation... The wolves knew it was there because of their keen sense of smell. All wolves have really sensitive noses, so they were able to locate it by sniffing about. They didn't know for certain that Graham would be able to find it, but once they located the vial they wanted to guard it just in case he did (better safe than sorry, right?). The reason they didn't simply get rid of the vial of liquid is because if, while they were holding it, the vial broke and spilled on them, it would be like poison. They didn't want to take that chance and instead wanted to wait until they became human again (in the morning) and get rid of it then so until that time they had to guard it as best as they could so it didn't fall into the wrong hands and be used against them.

The reason that they guard it even if Graham has already taken it (and I know you're going to ask that question if I don't answer it here <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> ) is because even after Graham has taken it, it still leaves a slight aroma in the area so the wolves still think that the vial is somewhere nearby.

Sound reasonable?

~Wolfgang

Uhhh......
Once Graham covered himself in the vial to protect him from the wolf that was going to attack him after he got the tiara, after the wolf ran away, it would've told the rest of the pack that Graham found the vial, wouldn't it?

Re: Uhhh......
Not that it would have mattered. The wolfbane potion only lasts a VERY short time. It won't protect you from the wolves in the swamp, no matter what.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

Re: From the walkthrough:
The plotwriter made sure not to be too blatant when referring to fairy tales. Calling the girl "little red riding hood" would make the fairy tale reference a bit too obvious. And then there's the development she undergoes...

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

Re: From the walkthrough:
Yes, as King's Quest progressed (improvement) fairy tales seemed to be less and less blatant. They made them intertwine with the story a bit, but didn't want to be a string of stories together. My "hint book" for a long time was a big book of brothers grimm fairy tales.

---------

"Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?"
"Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?"
----------
Sponge Factory

Re: From the walkthrough:
In the first three games, Rumplestilskin, Little Red Riding Hood, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears were obvious references that didn't seem to have much of a part in the story. But in KQ6, the Beauty and the Beast was changed from the original, and more intertwined with the main story.
"Lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot; do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime"

And another thing..........
If the werewolf didn't want Graham to get at the ointment, why would they leave the house? And how could the werewolf get out out of the house if Graham leaves it and then comes right back in?

Re: And another thing..........
It's a random occurance. Not everything in the game makes logical sense.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashc ...

Erpy, I find that saying "It's magical" does the trick too. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Re: And another thing..........
I've played through the game 4 times and never had an occurance with the werewolf. Have I downloaded a non-werewolf KQ2VGA.

Hmmm...
I think you have to make sure not to have the reed yet when entering the house. If you have a weapon that could kill him, he doesn't appear, to prevent disruptions to the plot line <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> .

Re: Hmmm...
But it takes more than silver to deal with these wolves, as the death message goes (or something like that). I'll have to find those old death message threads. So even if you did have the right tools, you still couldn't kill the wolf unless you carried the poison around with you, which wouldn't be the brightest of things to do, if it were real life.
"Lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot; do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime"

Re: Hmmm...
But it's also about an opportunity to get rid of the needle. If you have the reed and needle (you need the needle in order to even reach that point), you can waste the needle and get into a dead end situation.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...
