"Super Mario Bros was very innovating upon release, for it was the first video game to consisted of more than one screen at the same time, using scrolling and skipping techniques".
Video games up to that point all consisted of one static background image. That image might change when you went to a different level, but on each level the screen was the same. Super Mario Brother was the first game that had scrolling screens; the background moved along with the character. I'm not sure what is meant here by skipping, though.
"The Arcade version of this game was slightly different to the NES version: it was more difficult."
I've never heard this before. I admit that I've only played the arcade machine a scant few times, but it always seemed identical to me.

I'll do some checking of my own to see if I can come up with more information for you.

Whoohoo Resident Evil: Outbreak finished downloading!!! I don't think I'll bother patching it to play online the single player should be good enough!!

Also finally completed ripping Xenosaga from DVD9 to DVD5, well 3 DVDR as its like FF7 each CD has the same files on it apart from the movies so there are 3 DVD's for it.

Burned DVD 1 last night but it froze after the intro movie, I made a mistake and added the original xenosaga.02 file instead of the one I edited with the hex editor lol so just building the ISO again, hopefully it should work now!!!

I wouldnt exactly say a short time, I do have a 1MB connection (greetz to Vamps dad for that) but with P2P it depends on who you download from so you almost never get full speed.

Downloading Outbreak which was 3.2GB took nearly 4 days as it was hopping in between 1kb-20+kb

So you just download it forget about it and then its done, so if you have patience Broom you can download large files.

Vamps PC never gets turned off lol

And whilst I was downloading Outbreak I downloaded Season 1 and 2 of the 90's Spiderman cartoon! So even though you dont get max speeds it means you can download more because if one file is only going at 20kb then I still have a 100kb download speed not being used!!

Anyway just burned Outbreak took 30mins on 2x DVD+R

*Angelus inserts Swap Magic DVD switches to NTSC then swaps in Outbreak..... and craps himself as the LOUD voice says RESIDENT EVIL as he pushes start" lol!!

Ahhh yes Resi Evil Outbreak is sweeeeeet!!

Anyway just wondering what the best compression ratio you guys have seen in files, the best I've seen is 90% but that was only in a small file.

I downloaded Fight Night 2004 for PS2 today it was only 98MB but when I unzipped it, it was 1.2GB!!!! Thats amazing compression!!

Speaking of which I'm off to play it now.... Round 1!!

Damn turns out the game was only a demo!! Wasted a bloody DVD!!

Downloaded the full game and the compression was just as good!! 789MB unzipped to 3.2GB!!! Thats amazing!!!

oh and Fight Night 2004 is sweeeeet!!

Hey Erpy, I think this might interest you, Phantasy Star 1 has been remade for PS2!! I dont know if you have one but it looks quite good, its only out in Japan at the minute but hopefully it will reach US and Europe.

Here are some screenies I got from IGN.

Yep, I know. They seem to have the same intent with Phantasy Star 2 and 4. I believe PS1 got a very radical overhaul. Not certain how the fans responded to it though.

I wish they would remake the Secret of Mana...I like that game SO much, especially the 3 player function (with an expensive add on of course) which was really new back then on the SNES. :(

Just semi-completed my FF collection today, Vamp bought me Final Fanatsy Origins with her first pay pack (thanks darl) so now I have 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9 & 10 (I have X-2 but I copied lol but I AM gonna buy it).

What happend to FF3 though? Wasnt it something like the Jap version of 3 was the US version of 6 or something????? Somewhere there must be a FF3 though becuase what is the US version 3 and what is the Jap version 6 lol Erpy I think you'd know the answer or Wolfgang or another FF nut like myself ;)

Scanned them in to!!! I think some of them I'll have to replace the boxes as they've got a little dirty over the years, but a cool collection nontheless!!

Final Fantasy Origins (I & II)

Final Fantasy Anthology (IV & V)

Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy X

As I say I still need to purchase FF X-2 and I dunno about FFXI, I mean even if I did get it with the hard drive or something I dunno if I'd play it, I have the broadband adapter but I dont think I could be bothered to play online for hours and hours which is what the game would require.

FF3

#218 Post by anathoth8 » Mon Apr 19, 2004 6:55 pm

Hmm, the PAL collections seem to be different than the US versions.

Our Final Fantasy Anthology contained FFV and FFVI. FFIV was included in Final Fantasy Chronicles, which also contained Chrono Trigger. As far as I know, there is still no version of FFIII available in the US. Again, PAL is apparently different so I don't know about that for you.

BTW, those PAL boxes are pretty boring compared to the US boxes.

Box Art

#220 Post by anathoth8 » Mon Apr 19, 2004 7:11 pm

Post some pics of the US versions then.
No offense intended. I simply meant that the box art is rather dull compared to the US versions. The PAL versions only have the logo over a white background, while the US versions all have some type of artwork along with the logo.

I don't have any shots of my own to post, but here's an online store in which I have done a search for FF games on PSX. I'm not trying to advertise for them or anything, it just seemed like the best way to show them to you.

By the way, I would love to have a collection as complete as yours. I haven't even had the opportunity to play those early games. I have played FFIV most of the way through, but not all. Other than that, FFVII is the earliest I have played.

Those are sweeet covers but I just prefer the simplicity of the PAL logo's how each little graphic represents the game like the FF7 Meteor or Yuna and Sin on FFX.

They feel more of a classic style.

I guess its just opinion though, you like tamato and I like tomato lol

Nice Collection!

An excellent collection Angelus; you almost have as many as me. If you've got the time and the cash, I would recommend getting FF Tactics and Tactics Advance (although that's for the GBA, not PlayStation). Tactics is one of the best strategy RPGs I've ever played plotwise and playing Tactics Advance would give you a heads-up on the world setting for the upcoming Final Fantasy XII.

As to FF3, it's a common matter of confusion. Of the first 3 FF games (all on the NES or Famicom), only the original came over to the States. When FF4 was released in Japan, fans asked Square for an easier version for the kiddies and they released FF4 Easytype. That one got brought over to the US as FF2 (Easytype, grrrr...). FF5 was similarly skipped and FF6 became FF3 for the US release.

Enter Sony and FF7. The numbers were reset, all the US fans who didn't already know about the missing games now did and eventually Square wised up and started re-releasing the games (and finally giving the US fans Hardtype FF4, of course still with "You spoony bard!"). As of now, the REAL Final Fantasy III is the only remaining non-remade, not-outside-of-Japan game. Hopefully, Square-Enix will fix that sometime soon (although right now the developers are busy with the GBA re-re-releases of I & II).

That's the bottom line.

Thanks for the info I knew it was something like that!!

I hope Square release FF3 remade for PS1 that would be cool!!

If I did get FF Tactics then it would have to be NTSC as a PAL version was never made, I do have a downloaded copy of Tactics so I have played it.

Im not sure if Im gonna buy FFXI it depends on whether thats the only game that comes with the Sony HDD or not as by the time it comes to the UK it might ship with GTA:San Andreas or something.

FF Clarity

#224 Post by Brainiac » Tue Apr 20, 2004 4:25 pm

I can understand about not getting FFXI; the combined cost of the HDD and the monthly upkeep of the online accounts can be a little prohibitive. Hopefully, they'll release for both PS2 and PC just like in Japan and here in the States.

From your post, I wasn't sure if you got me. I wasn't referring to FF11 (which is only upcoming for the PAL regions), I was referring to FF12 (which is upcoming for everybody). It will be set in the world of Ivalice (from Tactics Advance, not from Tactics) and will include characters/NPCs of all 5 of the races in that game. It will be offline, so the monthly fees issue is gone and I doubt it will be needing the HDD.

Of course, since this isn't even out in Japan yet, you've got a LONG wait... :(

Oh yea I know what you meant about FFXII, I was just saying that I cant buy FF Tactics PAL becuase it was never released in the UK.

But yea looking forward to XII, what I dont get is I read somewhere that FFXII doesnt have as many ploygons as FFX because they didnt have time!??! Why didnt they just take their time with it and make it look better?? Thats been one of the main things with FF each game has looked better than the last one, thats always something I looked forward too!!

I was thinkin if FFXI does come out here with the HD and if I do get the HD then I will just play it for a month as thats free then just keep it for my collection lol

On to another topic I lost my Swap Magic CD today and I looked everywhere for it (twice in fact) and found it in the spare bedroom lol but whilst I was looking for it I found something that has been missing for almost a year (literally) LUNAR SILVER STAR STORY!!!! It was at the bottom of Vamp's washing basket lol I seriously thought I had lost that lol

Of course that is NTSC but I bought it because it came highly recommended from Erpy ;) and I have my ways of getting it to boot on my PAL V7 PS2 Mwhahahahaa *cough* excuse me...

Lunar Box

Lunar Case

Of course I have the hard back book/manual and the cloth map etc too

Now that I've found it I'll have to start playing it again... well I cant unless I get a PS1 memory card cos you cant save to PS2 mem cards!!!
