Yeah, I got the cloth map and hard cover booklet too. That booklet was quite fun to read. If only I could get my hands on the strategy guide too.

LSSS Strategy Guide

#227 Post by Brainiac » Tue Apr 20, 2004 9:38 pm

Ah yes, the Lunar 1 strategy guide. I have the official Working Designs one (there's also an unauthorized one by Prima) and it is quite an amusing piece of work; it's worth the purchase. Of course, there are several rather abusive comments towards Nash, so you might want to stay away, Erpy...

There's an auction on eBay for the game + guide; it's the only one listed with worldwide shipping. However, it's got a reserve price.

Yeah, that's the one I meant. I pretty much know my way around the game by now, but the writing's quite amusing. (ditto with the official EB-guide)

Yeah, but there's also several abusive comments regarding him in the game, sooo...

Erpy just wondering something, why did you like Nash so much, obviously I dont know any obvious reasons as I havn't played the game long enough yet, but one would assume the player would like the main character of the game better, know what I mean??

Alex, the main character of Lunar, is more or less supposed to be the player's avatar (either that or he's simply incredibly quiet), so his character isn't all that well designed.

I like Nash because he's an interesting character and probably the deepest and most sophisticated character in the game besides the main bad guy. He may not have a very likable personality, but at least he has a well-developed one, as shown in the crapload of optional dialogue the game comes with. Nash also goes through a lot of subtle development as a character. (albeit not always good development. ;) )

I see!

Thats the main thing I love besides a good story in any game/movie/book is good character development. I think thats why I love FF so much the story and character development are top class!!

I personally like the dialogue in Lunar more than FF. (at least the FF's I've played) In FF, townsfolk usually just say general things or give hints. In Lunar, each townsperson has at least two different things to say and their responses usually adjust depending on where you are in the game. And in about 75% of all the cases, one of your characters will have something to say in return. (pretty often witty too) The moodpics also draw you into the conversation.

Yea I'm looking forward to that, I agree about the FF town people aswell they all say the same thing. I've prolly mentioned this before but the first RPG I played (which was Sword of Vermillion on Megadrive) I LOVED the fact that you went round talking to people lol

Just need to hook myself up with a PS1 memory card and I'll be away!

I also love how the story of Luna is told thru the cartoon style, I love the intro aswell, when I found it yesterday I put it on just to watch the intro lol

Lunar

#234 Post by Brainiac » Wed Apr 21, 2004 8:12 pm

I agree that the dialogues are very amusing and crisply written in Lunar. However, I'm not sure if this is so much a difference in design as it is in translation. Working Designs has a reputation as a 'innovative' translator; they don't feel too bound to be literal. WD adds a lot of pop referneces and 'smooth out' a lot of the dialogues when they translate works whereas Square translators are more literal and less liberal with their work. Of course, this is also why Working Designs tends to have large release delays for their products.

As to the abuse towards Nash, you're right that there is a fair bit of it in the game, Erpy. However, I don't recall Nash being said to have "the body of a twelve-year-old female gymnast" except in the guide.

Although there are the first batch of scenes at Althena's Spring... :x Wish I hadn't remembered that image...

Hey Ang, my mate lent me Smackdown 5. It's pretty good but I still think No Mercy is best in gameplay. Smackdown may have the Hell in the Cell matches and * :p Bra and Panties Match :p * but No Mercy has style dag nabbit!

Oh and Angelus, way to completely rip off my signature! :P

Whoohoo Shining Force is coming to PS2!!!!
As mentioned in our story from earlier this week, Sega is working on three Shining Force games. One is just the Japanese version of the Shining Force remake that is set to be released in America through THQ. Amusement Vision is listed as the developer of the title, which will be released to Japan on August 5.

The other two titles should prove more interesting for fans of the series. Shining Force Tears is being developed for the PlayStation 2 for release in Winter 2004. The game is listed as an action RPG with character designs by "Tony."

Also in development is a brand new entry in the series, referred to as merely Shining Force for now. The developer for this PlayStation 2 title is listed as Amusement Vision. Sadly, the game's Japanese release date is listed as 2005, meaning we're going to have to wait some.

We expect more details on both new Shining Force games at Sega's upcoming pre-E3 press conference. Stay tuned!
Oh and Broomie I believe there is a Smackdown coming to GC so you know it rocks boy!!!

Wow that looks amazing. They need to get with the times though, Undertaker is back to his evil ways now, he looks like the old Biker in that picture.

Yes I've started watching WWE again, it's so damn great I don't know why I stopped watching it. ;)

Tell me the truth Chris, you watch it aswell don't you? ;)

Btw, if they're making this now what happened to the next Smackdown game, supposedly called Word Life? Is this it?

I noticed Forbidden Siren at numero 29. Is that good? Since my brother is thinking about about buying. Is it a good deal as last time he just "bought" something it ended up being the biggest piece of crap ever (See: Max Payne 2) and Holy Moly indeed that is a big list of games. Compares greatly to the number of my GC games, I have about 8 now. I had quite a few recently but I took loads back for a new game, including my beloved Viewtiful Joe. Oh and a Viewtiful Joe 2 has been annouced also! It looks kickass, actually it kinda looks the same from the screenies but I'll judge it when it comes out. Also I can't wait till Spiderman 2 comes out, it looks great, not that crappy one where your just shooting your web into the sky and somehow moving. This one you target your websling on a building and swing, you can even walk on the ground also which you couldn't do in the first one.

Yea I read about Spiderman 2 looks really cool!!

Yea Forbidden Siren is good a bit too good, Im too scared to play it!!!

I would say its best to rent anything before you spend £40 on it!!

I cant wait till Veutiful Joe hits PS2, shouldnt be long now!!

Cant wait for the PS2 HDD aswell!!!

Angelus, I noticed on your list that you have FFX for your PS2. Actually, I assumed that before now, but until I saw it on the screen, the truth of that didn't hit me until now.

You have the PAL version, which means your version is equivalent to the Japanese FFX International. You have a beefed-up Omega Weapon, the extra abilities (RIBBON!), the Dark Aeons, and, of course, Penance/Der Richter.

I have the NTSC-U/C version. I hate you. :D

Yup those Dark Aeons sure are hard!!!

I think the Dark 3 Sisters had like a million HP or something!

btw Der Richter is only in the German version of the game.

Even though its the same as the Jap International I dont think the PAL version has 'Another Story' on it does it?

EDIT:

There is some SWEET stuff coming to PS2!!

X-Men Legends which is an X-Men RPG!!!

;) better than the previous one.

I need to read that article and see who the last X-men is they're going to implement. There was talk of Northstar last year. But they weren't sure, and had a whole lot of other options as well.

Wow...this game is gonna be good. X-men RPG, now why didn't anybody think of that before....

The only thing I'm not going to like it that they are basing it partly on the Ultimate X-men storyline. How could they. :evil I hate it.
