System Lockup

#1 Post by hejacob » Wed Jun 02, 2004 1:18 am

The system locks up everytime in the swamp when I try to merge the needle, and the reed to get rid of the werewolf.
There is also the matter of a limited amount of saving the various parts of the program, and I have over 10 1/2 megs of free space where the game is stored. This indeed is very frustrating, and mosty games always tell you to save often, but when you are limited by the program >: this is impossible.

This is a limitation of the game engine we used, AGS. All you have to do to solve this is zip up your current set of saved games, and then overwrite them to continue saving.

Also, if you want to comment on further technical aspects, please continue in this post instead of making a new post for each one.

I am not sure what your lockup problem is. Some information about your computer system, what resolution you're running the game at, etc, would surely help. It sorta sucks that all these new "bugs" are being found!

Please do keep correspondance in the forum. It may be someone else has the answer to your problem, after all.

Well it is something that AGS creator Chris Jones has certainly heard complaints about from time to time, so that's nothing new and don't worry about sounding critical. If it's a fact then we can deal with it as a fact - if it's slander, then that's different! :)

I have a 180 Gig Hard Drive that is partitioned to suit my personal needs. I'm curently running Windows 98 se, and have all of the latest drivers installed. My video Card is the PNY GEForce TI 4200 with 128 DDR meg memory. I'm using the Sound Blaster 5.1 with MP3& Gamer The modem is an Internal PCI USRobotics V92 FAX. I also have two ( 2 ) of the latest Sony CD/RW Drives 52 - 32 - 52

In any case my system locks up where I told you, and I also notice that it changes my video settings from 800, to 640 when this happens, and I have to change this back after I reboot the system.
That is definitely a standard problem when any program crashes, to leave you stranded in the resolution it was running. So I take it you are running the game in 640 then? Have you tried running it in 320? 320 is what is recommended, and I don't see why that would make a difference to the lock up problem, but I'm not a complete technical expert.

Erpy or AGD2, any ideas on this particular problem?

I normally run the system at 800, and 16 bit color resolution as opposed to many that use the 1024 with either the 16 bit color, or even the 32 bit color resolutions. I did forget to mention that the monitor is an NEC LCD 1700 NX, Multisync, and with the normal refresh rate at 60mhz. This monitor can certainly run the higher resolutions very easily, and that I certainly feel is no real issue in this particular case.
