I think I may be the luckiest man on Earth
Okay, check this out, guys. There's this girl I've been seeing this summer. She's awesome. Beautiful, smart, funny, and everything I want in a woman wrapped up in a wonderful little package. Needless to say, I've been having a good time. So one day I'm hanging out with her at her house and her dad's there, and he looks at me and says jokingly, "You know anybody who wants a 486?"
I looked at him, stunned. "Are you serious?" I replied, a little bowled over and excited. "Sure," he says, pointing to a giant dinosaur of a CPU sitting on the fireplace. "I'm throwing it away unless somebody wants it. Why, you know anybody who wants one?" My eyes get wide. "ME!" I say, excitedly. Then he runs me down a list of the specs...and I find out it's equipped with Windows 3.1! This is the computer I've been looking for for years! I say I want it, and he tells me to load it up in the back of my car. I now own a 486! Error 52 is but a faint memory now! SQ4 running fast? Pish posh! I can even play Privateer and nothing goes wrong. My dreams have come true.
But then, it gets better. Me and my girl are driving back to my house, 486 in tow, talking about how excited I was to get this thing. She doesn't know why I want such an old thing. So I tell her. "I'm a fan of these old games that came out a long long time ago, like when this computer was made, so I need it to--" Then I'm interrupted by a question:
"You mean like King's Quest?"
I quite nearly swerved the car off the road.
"You know about King's Quest?" I asked her, shocked and stunned. "Yeah!" she says. "They're, like, my favorite games ever." It turns out that her and her best friend are avid KQ and QFG players. Her favorite game of all time is QFG4. When I told her I have every KQ game and every QFG game, she just about hit the ceiling. She was squealing with excitement and actually called up her best friend then and there to tell her I had the games and I knew how to make them work. It was at that moment that I knew I loved this girl.
How much better can it get? I've got a wonderful girlfriend who's into KQ and QFG without my introducing it to her and a 486 with Windows 3.1 given to me by her father. I think it's time I went ring shopping.
So that's my life for the summer, how was all of yours?
