No, actually Sierra (like several other companies in those days) made the mistake of attempting to hop onto the 3-d bandwargon by tacking an old familiar name on a hastily-put-together engine. If they had done it right, it would have been a success and they would have created a KQIX afterwards.
Bad corporate policy, imo.

I agree as well, but I doubt today's video game consumers would give it a second thought. They look to be dazzled by state-of-the-art 3D graphics first, and don't consider gameplay until after they've bought it, which is of course too late. That's why it's important to look at game ratings in magazines and whatnot, or ask an acquaintance if they've tried the game. Unfortunately, the high-level graphics shown in screenshots on video game boxes lead to an impulse purchase, rather than a careful consideration of what the game's true worth might be.
Video game = computer game to me, in case of any confusion.

I agree, graphics come first and always will be. QFG5 was amazing, the graphics were good. slight 3D.Vipt wrote:I agree as well, but I doubt today's video game consumers would give it a second thought. As for 3D, I'm fine with it. I enjoy 3d games like Ultima 9 and Final Fantasy 10 (both of which I felt were more like Adventure games with RPG battle)
I DO NOT enjoy games like MoE.
They threw a box of polygons into an engine and called it a game.
That's why I felt it should be remade. I would love it if someone could hack the engine so you could write a new plot, it might be worth playing despite the poor quality of the 3d. I'd prefer a 2d game, but I wouldn't complain.
In the version I am trying to get going, it would be possible to avoid all the battles, but a sword is also available (in fact, the few puzzles there were in the original sometimes gave weapons as rewards, such as excalibur)
Can't fight progress, right?

Actually for Ultima 9, the same principle applies... it was a hastily put-together 3-d hack that has very little to do with the earlier Ultima games, or their atmosphere, and that basically killed the series because of poor management decisions. Just like very few KQ fans like MOE, so do very few Ultima fans like U9.
(for instance it's far too linear for an Ultima RPG, and the controls are very bad)
