SQ3 Remake project restarted

#1 Post by Phoenix Software » Mon Feb 07, 2005 6:49 pm

The project previously known as SQ3VGA has been restarted and a completely different approach has been taken this time. The plans for an enhanced plot that were already in existence during SQ3VGA are still in the back of our head and an equally important improvement over the original will be the use of 3D modelled characters in our game.

The team that will be working on this project listens to the name Hybrid studios and our home planet is named Planet Wilco. (don't forget to put the www's and dot-com around the name if you want your navigation computer to recognize the location ;) )

The not-so-subtle hint in this message is: "Come drop us a visit and stick around if you feel the need." In fact, even if you don't want to stick around, do drop by from time to time to check on our progress. :)

I hardly think that would help :p

Don't worry, I'm sure all new and small projects experience this.

The IA team is pretty big, that's why their forums are active, their members post there a lot, but not many outsiders come ;)

In time, after enough screenshots have been released (or other sort of information), people will come.

I encourage you to repost the link.

I had my random rant.  Sometimes you regret what you say.  ;)

Hmmm, about 45% of all his posts here suddenly dotted out. I'm not certain what goal you're trying to achieve, Robin, but stuff like this tends to make people frown.

EDIT: You've been busy, haven't you? I notice lots of messages under your Rog-account have also been 'dotted. Don't you share my opinion that this is just a little silly? Please stop this, you're making threads incoherant by doing this.

Hey Erpy, could you check your PM Box? If you've already responded then could you please reply again as I realised I had a 100% full inbox. Geez I need to stop getting popular. :p

Also, it may be presumed as obvious, but Rog told me he's leaving AGDI (and the whole adventure game community if I understand correctly) for good. Yet I don't see why he had to replace the majority of his posts with four dots.' Tis a boggler of thee mind.

Not only is that kinda silly it doesnt make Hybrid Studios look all that proffesional especially with the "Hybrid Studios is HERE!!" thread being replaced with "...."

The menu flash file is 1.7MB. Takes about 5-10 seconds on ADSL.

Hey guys!

This looks excellent so far! Very nice job :)

I really like the menu you put together, Robin.  It looks great with the Flash picture animations.

I can't wait to see more! :)

Although the flash menu would be so much easier, efficiently, better-loading and performance done with Javascript.

(I was lured by the dots)

Strange, in the random rants thread a week or so ago, I asked why Lucasfan had dotted out all of his posts, Rog answered me.  I wonder if I gave him the idea?

Too bad.  Looks like there's noone else here to talk Portuguese with.

P.S.  Now that this has happened twice, why not implement a time limit on edits?  I can't think of a good reason someone would need to edit their posts after a few days has passed, and if it was necessary one could always PM a mod for permission.  Overall I think this is the most well-mannered and best moderated board I've seen, it's just a suggestion.

I just edited the subject of this thread back in (well, a short version of it) in an attempt to get it back on topic.

(I wouldn't advocate such an "edit"-protection, btw, as cases like these are far and in between and it'd probably end up an inconvinience to others.)

Nice to see the flash menu has been fixed up - but now not all the menu options work?

Still they don't? Robin should've fixed it already. Perhaps he didn't have time or he wasn't able to upload it.

Y'know, regardless of whether or not deleting his posts or replacing them with dots messes up the flow of threads, the posts he makes are his to do with what he wishes. If he later on decides that he doesn't like what he's posted and wants to remove it, he can. Many people do this, delete their own posts or edit the controversial parts out when they feel like they were in the wrong. Yeah, it messes things up for those of us who don't check the forum every 3 minutes, but if he doesn't want people seeing something he wants to take back, it's his prerogative just like it was AGDI's prerogative to not let LucasFan's machinations stay.

Sure, he could be doing this as a form of board terrorism, but that doesn't mean that we have the right to go all dictatorship on him and implement silly rules and take him to task for it. That's what free speech is all about, the right to say or not say whatever you want. We may not like it, but if we tell ourselves that we have the right to say whatever we want and not allow him to say whatever he wants, then we're no better than any two-bit dictator.

Sorry I'm getting all preachy on you guys, but I see people like Rog who I'll admit do stupid and childish things, but with good intentions, get slammed and flamed repeatedly by the so-called "respected members" of the forum, and all it does is create a hostile climate for newcomers and a cache full of suck-ups. Are we going to be known as the board that doesn't tolerate new people and new ideas if they don't conform with our strict narrow view of decorum? I, for one, would not like that at all.
