Yes.  Yes it really really is a heckuva lot of work.
And yes, we're all psycopaths.

If you had half as much playing it as we did building it, we had twice as much fFun as you.

oh!  someone asked a really really good question a while back about the running the game in windowed mode.  the window title is "Quest fFor Glory 2 VGA".  There is a story here.

Waaaay back when we started this, we went around asking every group we could think of if they wanted to join.  A couple groups accepted, but eventually backed out.  We asked the AGDs, but they declined, saying they had other plans fFor their own prank.  So someone suggested we pull a double whammy.  Not just a game .. but a QfFG2VGA remake of our own!  So that was the initial idea.  start the hero off with that setup, and go fFrom there.  You were going to start in the katta's tail inn, then go into the plaza and see a guy with a paintbucket labelled "VGA", paintinng the screen to be VGA.  I dont remember what other ideas we were going to have.  But the idea trickled slowly away, and now all that are left is the katta's tail inn where you start (it's a mirror image with the exit in a weird place), the harem (also mirrored), the window title, and the "Some Unfinished Game" text in the two aforementioned screens.

At some point, Radiant thought we had better ask erpy what he thought of us doing QfFG2VGA, if he thought AGDs would take it the wrong way.  So uhm, yeah, erpy was in on it too.  He's a gem
:)

So, SSS is a prank too? I thought it was a very good idea.

Well, SSS is just a name of a group of people.  We have, in some cases, grown quite fFond of each other I think, and -- while i dont want to speak fFor everyone -- I plan on helping other people in other groups with their projects to work towards a common goal.  But in as much as a single entity bound together to help each other, like some sort of blood rite or something?  no, all 5 projects are really much too different to work together fFor any length of time.  As was pointed out numerous times, the HoIK game doesnt fFlow together.  it's quite choppy.  that's cos each scene is fFrom a completely different world.  they just dont work quite the same way together.  Helping each other is one thing.  being bound at the hips to each other is something quite different.

It's quite true the screens clash with each other, but a lot of them were taken from varying games and mashed together, right? I imagine things would be a little better if you were helping each other create screens from scratch. :)

That said, I can understand not wanting to merge. Still, SSS seems to me like a good umbrella organization for projects to lend help to each other.

BTW, what would you guys say is most lacking in the development communities comprising SSS? Screen artists? AGS scripters?

Artists... 'cause PK's artist up and left to start his own game... and he's trying to use art he submitted to PK for it...

hmm .. most lacking .. well, hero6 has volumes of music to draw on.  Noone has any shortage of background art, and coco did an amazing job with programming.  The thing which almost killed us was sprites.  coming up with characters was easily accomplished.  Again, hero6 has troves of unused NPCs.  But many of them only had a dialogue pic drawn.  But no sprites.  The animation of the pixi hunter walking off the screen looks schlocky because it was literally tossed together at the last minute.  The goofy knight fFalling over was chosen to be goofy by way of being easy to animate.  We were really hard up fFor sprites.

Interestingly, although we had plenty of backgrounds, we only had one exterior which had buildings in it.  So we have this beautiful interior background we had to drop because we ran out of buildings. :)  So that was a shortage as well:  fForest with more than just trees.  Which is fFunny cos i'm an architecture fFreak.  But that one image, which has been turned into a banner fFor the game, was originally not needed:  to many backgrounds as it was.  We have since gotten a ton of mileage out of it.  :)

*sighs* Don't.Get.Me.Started.On.How.Tough.Plot.Is. Just joking!!!!  :lol

But all in all, I don't know if we need any new people for now but... doing a project can be really tiring. Even more so when it's a hobby done during leisure time.

The game is still pretty good, especially when you factor in the fact that we did it in less than a month. Will you please stop insulting the people who do think it's a good game?

It's hard not to, I mean it goes to show people will eat up anything people feed them, and THAT insults me.

One good thing I'll say is, the game had it's funny moments, and maybe thats what they liked about the game.

Well orchestrated prank btw.

Most of your comments have been insulting not only to those who do like the game, but to us, the ones who took the trouble to make it for all of you to play. It's a free game, and we made it under a lot of time-constraints. We don't get anything out of this at all. Could you please refrain from making such comments? Thanks for the compliment on the prank, btw.

I'll refrain from the insults, i'm sorry.  I have to say this though, I think you guys DO get something out of this.  Practice in game developing, and fame among the adventure gaming community.  I would personally would like to join one of the teams if I wasn't so skilless in art and programming.

Animators. Doing the character animations is the biggest hang-up of any of the teams from what I can see. I could be wrong, but it's definetly the case for IA.

Anyway, glad it was enjoyed.

Oh, and we thanked Erpy, but NavyNuke was also a great help, pretending to ban Cain from these forums...  :D

I'd agree with Klitos... everyone seems to have a major shortage of animators. So if you want to join an adventure project, grab your hands full of pixels and learn it :)

There isn't really a surplus on anything if you ask me (except in 'people who think they have teh kewlest id34 ev4r...' :) ) but there's enough BG art, music, portraits and scripting to go around.

But yeah, think of SSS as the Guild of Adventure Game Designers. Or something.

Animators... interesting. Too bad I lack skill/talent in that direction. :\

Heh, quite true. I suppose the most lacking thing is someone to fund a payroll. ;)
