I just have one of those faces. There is a boy in my year who is literally my twin. Everyone thinks we are twins and if he gets in trouble, I get in trouble. I always have to get my buspass out alot to prove I'm Jamie and not "the other one."

A Briton who's not interested in football? That's like a Canadian who's not interested in hockey! Hang your head in shame....

So I guess this is as good a place as any to ask.. why are two sports called by the same name? American vs. European football?? Anybody have an answer? And where did the term 'soccer' come from, if that wasn't the original term? Seems like an odd name for a sport.. 'soccer'.. for it just to be invented out of thin air..

<confused/curious>

European Football (or what I call "Real" Football) was invented first. It seems silly how the Americans just stole the name for a sport which has hardly any contact with the actual foot with it. Then how similar it is to Rugby.
Alot of it can be explained
here.

The term "soccer" is a somewhat mangled abbreviation of "association football".

Like was said in the football thread: Football's got nothing to do with stinky feet. Rather with the length of the ball.
