The way "fair use" works is you get sued for copyright infringement, and you admit you did copy, but that your copying was a fair use. A subjective judgment on, among other things, your goals, is then made.

However, it's also worth noting that a court has never ruled on this issue, because fan fiction cases always get settled quickly when the defendant is a fan of limited means sued by a powerful publishing company.
This one was something I didn't really know about until I read it. Basically, "fair use" or "parody" never actually saved someone's butt since it doesn't prevent a court case, it's simply something you can use in your defense that may or may not influence the verdict. Good thing we didn't finish Royal Quest.

Quest For Glory Fan wrote:I was drawn in. I hadn't played an adventure game in nearly a decade when I found this forum. Right after starting my posting here I bought the Quest For Glory Collection (as my old ones I remebered didn't work anymore) and I  Started all over again. Since then I've bought and beat Broken Sword 1 and 2 and I look forward to commercial releases now. That's a bit more coin in the community because of AGDI and the fan base sits here and talks and entertains here while waiting for new releases. Most people are anticipating QFG2 more then commercial games coming out. I think I owe it to them to buy their commercial game when it comes out and if it's half the game it's trying to be I think I'll owe them a little more.
To put it simply, we're the exceptions, rather than the norm.

I find QFGF's message a bit strange as well.

Hey everyone,

I believe Broomie may have posted about this elsewhere, but I wanted to reply in this thread, as well.

Many of us King's Quest fans have joined together to try to save the game.  If you're interested, please visit our web site: www.savekqix.org

Our main focus is a letter writing campaign.  We feel if we can get enough people to write a physical letter to Vivendi, perhaps we can convince them to at least consider changing their mind about KQIX.

Like I said, feel free to stop by the site.  We also have a forum, and would love to hear your thoughts.
