Did I make a mistake in giving the troll the magic ring?

I was wondering it it was a mistake to give the troll the invisible ring to get across to talk with the gnome. I ended up getting the treasure, but will it mess up things down the road in the game when I may need it?

You did make a mistake, but it's not a game-breaking one. Every situation where you can use the ring also has an alternate solution.
