You do forget I work at Currys, don't you.
Although that is a good TV, go 2 inches lower and get this one.

You're saving £400 with it anyway, and it's probably our best TV in the whole store. The LG is a good one and I never doubt the make, but we sometimes have a few problems with that TV. To tell you the truth, we've got about two of them in the warehouse ready to go for repair.
That Samsung 40" however we rarely see problems with, and it has one of the better quality pixel engines out of all the other televisions. Compare the contrast ratio for one, 6000:1 vs. 1200:1. And of course, most of the features you see on the LG; digital services, HDMI connectivity, good sound engine ect you'll see it on the Samsung as well! I'd definetly recommend that one.
Oh, and of course the Samsung has a Gaming Mode which presuming you'll use that TV to play your console games, it enhances dark areas, sharpens the picture, speeds up the image processing response and enhances the sounds of your games. Picture and sound quality optimized for the special needs of gaming systems at the touch of a button as well!
Bottom line: Go for the Samsung 40" LCD. Not just because of the quality but if you goto any Currys store, you're most than likely to see one on display and see how much more stylish it is than the rest of the TV's.
You probably gathered I'm a salesman at Currys, and hey whenever someone wants a TV I always recommend this one.

In the 2-3 years I've been running Windows XP, I've never had to reinstall at all - that is, not until now, where what seemed to be a semi-small glitch has ended up making my system completely unusable.
It all started a little over a week ago - Microsoft released the Danish version of IE7. Turns out it wouldn't install, it BSOD'd when the installation was starting - I'd seen the error with their Malicious Software Removal Tool, but I could live with that one not working.
So, the next morning, I phone Microsoft support - fortunately IE7 installation support is free. We try out a couple of things, such as Safe Mode, using a different user profile, disabling pretty much everything running, disconnecting from the network - but nothing works. At the end of the day, I'm told he'll pass the case onto someone else, since it's Christmas and he's going on holiday, and I'm supposed to be called back Wednesday or Thursday.
Thursday arrives - of course, I just happen to be at an job interview when they call, but he agrees to call me the next day during morning. Today, I was then told to do a repair of Windows, but since it was pre-installed by the manufacturer, I don't have a Windows CD to do this - the closest thing is a Recovery CD, but that will format my entire system, and I'm not keen on doing that. I also can't use the file checking system in XP, since that prompts for an XP Pro disc (although I have XP Home).
What he then suggests is to try and un-install Service Pack 2, and the re-install it. So I uninstall it - no problem there - but when I try to re-install, I get the exact same error as with IE7.
He then suggests that I put the recovery CD in while Windows is running - a Windows XP setup window appears, and he tells me to go try going into the installer. I have two options, upgrade and new install. I'm told to try an upgrade to see if that fixes the problem. I set it to do that, but since I need to leave at that point (I got the job I was interviewed for the day before, and had to sign some documents), we agree that I'll have to try this and contact them when it's over.
I come home half an hour before support closes for the day, and I see the install is waiting for a driver from the driver CD, so I put that CD in, find the driver, and it pretty much takes care of things from there, finishing with 15 minutes left. It reboots, and I sit ready to try out the SP2 installation.
But there's a small hitch, XP needs to be reactivated immediately - it won't let me log in before I do. I can't activate via the Internet, so I need to phone in, but the request is denied, so I need to talk to customer service to get the activation ID. Before I'm done, there's only 1 minute left for me to try installing SP2 - not enough time to try it and get a hold of Microsoft, so I'll need to wait until after New Year's.
Here's where the real trouble occurs: This last part has COMPLETELY messed up my system. Rundll32 isn't working, resulting in a couple of errors on start-up, AVG claims it isn't registered properly, Outlook Express won't even start, and to top things of, I have no network cards available at all, so I can't go online with that computer.
Because of this, I've spent the last 7 hours backing up as much as I can, and I'm still missing quite a bit. Tomorrow, I'll have to use that recovery CD "properly", and then spend a few days re-installing all the programs - SP2 and IE7 will be first, but then follows Office (which will require going through Customer Service AGAIN, since I've already activated it way too many times), Encarta, World of Warcraft (plus patching, which will likely take longer than installing), Neverwinter Nights, and a bunch of other things. Joy >_<

I'd say yes, at the end of the day you're just looking at a span of 2 inches and if you compare them side by side, you will see a difference but only at a minimal range. The quality will make up for it as well as reliability. In fact I had a guy today who was intending to go for that exact LG model but I managed to convert him to the Samsung.
The problem at the moment, however is that it's out of stock for the time being until next week, unless of course the Newcastle branch has it in stock which I could check tomorrow to save you the journey. But if not I'm sure if you go down next Saturday you'll be able to get yourself one.

The branch closest to me (5 mins away) has the LG in stock but not the Samsung one.
It could change by Saturday though so I'll wait and see.
It does seem to be a big difference the LG has a contrast ratio of 1600:1 and the Samsung 5000:1
I'll pop into Currys on my day off Wednesday and hopefully they'll have both models on display.

Since you have a Wii, and I'm not sure if you have plans to get an X-box 360 why don't you invest in those Wii component cables?
Here's a comparison between normal AV and Component cables.

You can only get them online but it makes the picture so much sharper and runs it in 480p.

And Broomie, I already have the PS2 and Wii hooked up with component cables
Surely you knew I would have already thought of that!
Bit of a clearer pic

Bit of luck with new camera.
So we decided to get a new camera today, we didnt want to spend to much so reserved THIS one online at PC World and went to collect.
After waiting around for 10 minutes the guy came back and said sorry we don't have that camera in stock... so you get the next one up for the same price!!
So we ended up with THIS one which we were originally looking at but didnt wan't to spend that much lol!!
Also picked up a 1GB SD Card for use in the camera (and the Wii

That's just freaky, for some reason even before I clicked the link I knew you went with the Samsung D103 camera. At 10 million pixels for more than half the original price it's defintely worth it.
And I also spot the Philips Digital Frame on your corner stand.
Are you going for Sky HD by any chance? When you bought your TV there would have been an offer to get the Sky HD box around half price (£169>£300), yet I doubt it cause the guy didn't even offer cover.
Or will you be saving the HDMI connection for the PS3. Since if you have both you'll probably have to switch the cable for each one you're using due to the Sky HD box not having any extra HDMI connections. Unless the PS3 will have it but I doubt it.
Anyway, the TV looks awesome and I know you may have had the cables, I was just checking up on you.
