Corrupt Keyboard Input Problem AnyoneÉ

#1 Post by MusicallyInspired » Tue Feb 06, 2007 12:11 am

So Iève been having this problem for a long time now and itès really starting to bug me, as you can see in this post already. My apostrapheès, question marks, quotes, etc are all coming out as these weird È characters and I canèt get rid of it unless I close the program Ièm running that has the problem and reopen it.

It all started when I installed Microsoft Office 2003. So I have a sneaky feeling it has something to do with that. That and the same problem happened all the time at school when using programs (the computer of which also had Microsoft Office on it). I think it happens when I press the right Shift or Control keys too many times for shortcut keys and capitalizing characters.

So my question, does anyone know how to get rid of this problemÉÉ Iève already tried uninstalling Office but it seems to have left itès mark permanently if it was indeed the problem. Anyone else ever go through thisÉ Ièm desperate! It bugs the heck outta me.

I'm pretty sure it is. But where do I set that?

I'm presuming this is XP.

Go to your control panel, and set it to classic view (on the left).  Go to regional and language settings, and see if there is anything that you can change in those tabs that might help.  Specifically, under the languages tab, see the Text Services and input Languages, and click on details.  On the advanced tab of this, see if turning off advanced text services in that checkbox does it.  If it does, you can mess around with it and keep what you want, I think.  Hope that helps.

Ok I think I got it. There were apparently shortcut keys that changed the keyboard layout and the input language. I've disabled them and nothing crazy so far..

I'm glad you've solved your problem... I think in the far past I encountered something similar, as well.

I was going to avoid the obvious response which is "duh. You don't live in America or use the dollar, so duh." MI lives in Canada and uses the dollar, therefore American keyboard layout is the appropriate thing.
