People have to live. This is a job to people.
Salaries... vary between $30,000-$80,000 (US). Sometimes even more, depending on position.
Artists and animators - 10 person team @ (say the lowest) =$300,000 dollars.
Programmers - 4 @ $50,000 = $200,000
Designer - 1 @ $50,000
Writers/Translators - 3 @ $35,000 = $105,000
Other Expendables = $20,000
TOTAL=$675, 000 (US) production budget.
Again, this is just a simple example off the top of my head with guess numbers. It's most likely higher. So it's almost a MILLION to make a game - not ship, advert, distrib... etc.

You're totally right. I didn't even consider them, which is a complete oversight on my part.Thepal wrote:And that wasn't including sound editors, composers, voice actors, etc. It would be very hard to get away with one for under 1 million, and that's for a very basic one.
I remember when QfG5 came out it had the longest credits I had ever seen.
So, yes, it's really expensive to produce a game.

I like how you refer to it as "QFG II VGA+". I don't believe it's a "plus" game - not in any major way, like KQII+.
Anyway, I look forward to the release, which I don't think will be very long. I was thinking back to a few years ago when this forum bustled with interesting folks, and I long for (hopefully) a return from many forgotten friends.

It's getting pretty exciting. I expect to see the game sometime before the end of 2007. Every time I try and say what's up to navynuke on AIM he goes, "can't talk, busy testing, mumble mumble grumble..." I figure that means they're hard at work on it. If we're lucky, we might get a summer release. That'd be niiice.

Old times
I agree. As a lurker, I miss the times before the Drama of Fribbi, the endless questions of "when is it coming out," and the dramatic slowdown of thought-provoking and hilarious comments. Hopefully QFG2 will be the rebirth that this site is really needing.
Mostly, I'll be happy when I get to go back to lurker status, exclusively.

It has been a good run hasn't it. :lol
Never post much in the forums but have been sifting through them since '01 and they are usually entertaining enough to read through every week.
To me, after the game did not come out by '03 I stopped with the impatience and anticipation. Now with the idea that it will be wrapped up (perhaps...) sometime within the next 6-8 months, makes me wonder what other project will I find as good as QFG II VGA, that will make me visit the page whenever I get a free moment hoping the designer journals are updated?
This game has already killed what seems close to 2+ hours of my free time per week, and it's not even released! :lol

and when the game comes out it's not like we're all going to die. I know I'll be here for awhile atleast and I'm certain I'll love the hustleNbustleN new comers as much as everyone else. I remember when I joined about a month later Rambaldi left and everyone was so sad. By that time I didn't really understand why but even know I wish he along with Knight and the rest were back, on a simmilar note where has Vildern and Jafar been?

I hear that. Thinking back on when I first played the QFG series as it was released(1989 and on) I can remember how much fun the games were, and conversely, how dated it is by todays standards... would be an eyesore if I jumped into the 1990 release now(if I could get it working and find all the burried documentation needed for the anti-piracy maze that is!). I could use an "Oh, wow!" moment after AGDI team releases this puppy to the masses.Erpy wrote:Not very likely. There's only so much we could show before the public would already know how everything looked like before they even played it.
But I have to say, from the first day I played the VGA remake of QFG I back in 1992, I started hoping there would be a remake of QFG II. Been a while but I'm still interested. Got good reason to believe I won't be disappointed either.

QFG2 is a massive project, I doubt anyone can say.. "3 years is too long" after all the people of AGDI have been busy on other things too.
Though i've never played QFG2 from start to finish, I know its a large game with endless possibilties for bugs and unknown errors. So the question the fans should ask themselves is;
"Do you want a game that was rushed tomorrow, or a game that was carefully revised a few months later?"
The answer is quite obvious (to me ofcourse).
It'll be good to see these forums busy again and that extra surge of energy we all want in this community, be it a jolt for AGDI or IA , its always great to see the adventure game community come to life once more.

Well they haven't actually been working full-time on it for six years. People seem to forget that they were all kind of WORKING ON AL EMMO AND THE LOST DUTCHMAN'S MINE. I mean, they designed a full-length professional quality modern adventure game with 3D animations and sprites and a professional voice pack and stuff. It's for download on TellTale and stuff for money. They've really only intensely been working exclusively on QFG2 for about half that time, so the whole, "You guys are slackers" deal doesn't really apply. I mean, they've churned out two games in six years (being Al Emmo and QFG2). Most teams that have been together for longer than that haven't even come out with one. I'd say they're ahead of the game here.

Re: cool sig
It was from a movie called "Waking Life". It's an alright movie, that one line just stood out the most to me. ;)Jontas wrote:Stone the Crows I like your signature, I assume it's a quote. Where's it from?
QFG IIVGA
Having played the entire series a number of time I just wonder if your project will be completed in my lifetime?
