Re: Play a Sierra Game!
For me SQ1EGA works fine on any PC without a need for emulation such as dosbox, well for me anyway. :P

Re: Play a Sierra Game!
Yeah, but I bet you don't get sound. And if you do it'll only be 1 channel from the annoying PC speaker. You can only get the 3-voice +sfx channels if you use an emulator or an actual old Tandy computer.
I'm up for SQ1EGA. But I'm tellin' you, I'll beat it in less than a day without breaking a sweat unless we establish some ground rules. Like explore everything.
ALSO! When we're done the game we should chat about it at the [url=http://goodoldadventures.com/index.html]Good Old Adventures[/b] AGI chat room! That would be sweet! And we could go to all the different SQ1 scenes and talk about stuff we seen. And it'd finally get used! That place has been a ghost chat for years. We can do this for all the different AGI games as I think they are all implemented in the GOA chat. I think this idea is killer, who agrees?

Re: Play a Sierra Game!
Oh, snap! I didn't even think anyone went on GOA anymore!
Re: Play a Sierra Game!
Heh, not everyone is a hardcore 1337 space quest junkie, MI. I think for people who haven't played the game for years, simply playing it through would be enough.I'm up for SQ1EGA. What? Not everybody's a hardcore Space Quest junkie? Since when??
On an equally sad note, I just went to GOA and it seems broken. It just gives you a black screen when you enter. That sucks.

I've never been a true fan of SQ1, especially not the EGA version.

See? You've never played Space Quest I EGA. I "love" it. In fact, I think I'm going to play it on my Apple IIgs emulator - I don't think many people will be playing it that way!!! There's some slight differences to that version as well.

Great idea! I'll be playing it on DOSBOX for Mac, and FYI, if you use AGIMIDI (nice little program, you can find it at QuestStudios) you'll get sound on your midi card, not really 3-voice music, more like 3-part acoustic piano, but still, it sounds much better than the PC speaker.

Interesting! What differences are there between the versions?Blackthorne519 wrote:See? You've never played Space Quest I EGA. I "love" it. Re: Play a Sierra Game!
Well, I'm glad you asked!
I made a small Youtube Video to show some of them. Mostly having cool sound effects and such, and Kerona has an orange sky, for example.
Check out the video.
The Apple IIgs Version of Space Quest I
Warning, the volume is kind of loud on the clip. But it's cool.

That's a good idea, Bt. That'll make things a little more interesting for me when I play it!

Man, I love the AGI version of Space Quest I. I think the graphics were just killer. Not that SQ1VGA's are bad - I dunno... I just like the feel of SQ1 AGI.

Re: Play a Sierra Game!
I agree. SQ1 is one of the few AGI originals that I actually prefer the graphics over as opposed to the remakes.

Re: Play a Sierra Game!
I finished playing through the game and beat it with 204 out of 202 points. Hmmm.
Anyway, while I ended up closer to the fantasy side of adventure gaming, I do have plenty of history with the game as it's the first Sierra game I ever played and I didn't even know english at the time. I must have been like 10 or so.

Re: Play a Sierra Game!
That's amazing, I know people who've beaten RPG's in languages they can't read, but how did you do that with a game that is driven via a text-parser?Erpy wrote:...the first Sierra game I ever played and I didn't even know english at the time. I must have been like 10 or so.
Re: Play a Sierra Game!
Or if you play the game in dosbox and set the emulation from VGA to Tandy in the configuration settings you will get the awesome Tandy emulation that dosbox has which means you will get the Tandy sound just as if you own a Tandy.
Re: Play a Sierra Game!
I said I played it at that age. I most certainly did not beat it at that age.

Re: Play a Sierra Game!
I played SQ1EGA (as well as SQ2-4) a few months back. That should still count.
I love those games
.

Re: Play a Sierra Game!
God, I love SQ1.
I know Sierra did it's own VGA remake, but I've decided to "VGA" one of my favorite scenes from the game - the cliffs on the planet Kerona. Here's the original and a work in progress.

I kept the IIgs "orange" sky, 'cause I like it.

I do!Brainiac wrote:Lame.According to reliable sources (and my own playthroughs), you should be able to get 205 on an EGA playthrough (207 if you're lucky enough to own v1.0).
Awesome. I love the cliffs better than that skeleton.Blackthorne519 wrote:God, I love SQ1.

Re: Play a Sierra Game!
Nice, MI. You are hereby required to play through SQ1EGA v1.0 and take a screenshot from the end of the game with a score of 207 out of 202. That should keep even you slightly busy.
Re: Play a Sierra Game!
I didn't speak much english when I started playing Sierra games. I used to play with an english-spanish dictionary by my side. I'm in debt with Sierra, they gave me the motivation to learn english when I was still very young. I think that's also true for many gamers around the world.Erpy wrote:
