Re: Quest for Glory II : Fan Artwork & Contest Submissions
Oh I'm excited! I probably wont have anything new for the contest, to much going on at once at what I did have started got dropped. I know I have a bit of time left but unless things slow to a crawl I can't see anything getting done.Spikey wrote:Sorry, was away, and I won't be posting anything anymore until my final submission...working hard on it...
On the bright side I still get to see all your guys' work so it's all good!
Re: Quest for Glory II : Fan Artwork & Contest Submissions
I have been on many monthly-contest websites, and most of the content is always submitted on the last minute.
Just so this thread doesn't look dead, I'm submitting here an awful sketch that I've done in a minute or so, while working on mine. I'll delete it once I have anything to show.

Re: Quest for Glory II : Fan Artwork & Contest Submissions
I hope the relative deadness of the thread for the past couple of weeks mean people are busy working on their contest submissions. I know I have, and I'm really excited to see what everyone else has been working on.
I'm finally done drawing and inking my pic, although I still have colouring to do. Hopefully I'll have it submitted before the 31rst. Anyway, here it is with just the line art:

That dinosaur was so hard to draw. I actually sculpted a little clay Terrorsaurus to get the perspective right. Keep in mind this isn't the final-final version, just the mostly-final version.
I'm really eager to see what everyone else has come up with!

Me too! Everyone here is so good at drawing! I'm envious. Cute terrorsaurus!Ronkaperplexous wrote:That dinosaur was so hard to draw. I actually sculpted a little clay Terrorsaurus to get the perspective right. Keep in mind this isn't the final-final version, just the mostly-final version.

I'm currently working hard because my picture has so many characters and detail, and I got too distracted playing the game, heh. I hope I have enough time to finish it. Here's a ugly sketch of one of the guys, just for sharing.

4 days left in the Official Quest for Glory II contest!
If you posted a drawing on this forum and did not enter it in the actual contest, you have 4 days left! Visit the official Quest for Glory II site FAN section to submit your entry or shoot it directly to us at contest@agdinteractive.com
Please be sure to include your full name.
We have, to date, only received a handful of entries! If you're feeling creative, now is your chance to enter! There are plenty of prizes and we're looking for more than just drawings - we've even received some really beautiful costume and embroidery pieces.
There is so much talent in the community. So impressive! Keep up the great work.

...perhaps I can submit under a fake name...
Re: *** The Official QFG2 Contest Giveaway! ends in 4 days! ***
Well, I've just submitted something to the contest. And made a buffoon of myself on the corresponding letter. Should have double checked first.

Re: *** The Official QFG2 Contest Giveaway! ends in 4 days! ***
Guys, I am so excited to see the other entries! Especially the costuming ones!
Meanwhile, I should be working on my entry instead of posting here!

Re: *** The Official QFG2 Contest Giveaway! ends in 4 days! ***
I've submitted my entry and now I feel kind of bored because I don't have anything to work on.
Maybe I'll try to finish some of the other ideas I had for the contest that I didn't have time for before.
One more day! I can't wait. I hope everyone who submitted something will post it here so we can share. Unless everything'll be going up on the main website? Either way, 'twill be fun!

I hope it doesn't take too long to judge the entries, I'm excited to see what everyone has been able to put together... I guess we won't find out until Eriq (um... or maybe someone else.. I guess there might be more than 1 person doing website design
) has finished the 'winners' page... And I guess that will come at the same time as a small 'site-update' as well.. so we might have to be patient for a little longer
of course, that doesn't stop me from wanting to see what everyone has been submitting, and wanting it now :P
Eriq, I hope you guys are planing to show off a section of the works that didn't win as well

Wow, looking at the winners there's NO WAY I should be among them. Great job guys, it's awesome to see how this game really brought out the artist in everyone.
That was fun, I wish I'd gotten to finish the animation I'd wanted to do for this but it didn't work out that way. Damn you work! DAMN YOU! :: Shakes fist ::

Re: *** WINNERS ANNOUNCED! The Official QFG2 Contest!***
Wow... looking at the winner entries I'm very impressed at the multitude of mediums that people chose to use... really amazing
Lady pyro, I'm sorry you didn't manage to find the time to get your project to the level you wanted before the submission date, same thing happened to me as well. My swamp picture was intended to have both chernovy's in it, and have a lot more details. Work and RL commitments will be the death of us all
I love your clean lines and your sense of perspective... I usually have to muck around for hours fixing things that I know are wrong but somehow just can't seem to find out how to correct (hands.. oh glod, don't start me on hands
)
Timo, I saw your work in the thread you started yourself in the general forum and it's been my wallpaper for the last few days
Obviously when you draw/paint an image in photoshop you have an idea what the final resolution will be, and add detail accordingly. Looking at the city in the background I was wondering if you were indeed working on this image on a much higher resolution and then scaled it down, and if so, if you would considder performing the downscaling process again and perhaps not go as far down... perhaps something closer to 1920*1200? (But not at this resolution obviously, looking at your image it seems that you don't use that aspect ratio). If you designed this image to look its best at 1024*576 then to upscaling it (or downscaling less) will obviously not look as good as you intended it to, and I appologise profoundly for meddling in your affairs
. (Hint; I doubt your qfg1 image would suffer from a higher resolution version either
)
Laura, I'm still trying to figure out if this is a vector drawing or raster... (well, obviously it's raster now, but you know, before that
... if it's all vector based, and if your textures allow it I'm sure no one would mind if you posted a higher resolution of it here
I was going to post that I was sorry that I didn't have enough time to comment on all the entries, because I had to run and have a 5 min bath, throw some clothes on and jump in a taxi (on the weekends I do volunteer work through my company (my as in I work for them, not the other way around
)). sadly it didn't even get that far, as I was still uploading pictures when the taxi came, so I didn't get to post this this morning. It _does_mean however that I now have enough time to comment on all the entries:
Sticker board looks amazing, will definately be abused by myself as a wallpaper from time to time,
Fabric quilt & shema actionfigure; wow... that must have taken so much time and dedication to do... well done on the see through trouser fabric.. you really made an effort with the materials
Watercolor (/pencil?) looks amazing, remember first time I saw it on the forums... level of detail is amazing... I like photoshop because I can correct mistakes.. pencils and paint make it a bit harder
Colouring on the hero running away from the bad saurus looks amazing! was impressed when I saw the first version in the thread earlier, but the colour really gives it dept.. especially the shield!
I love the tarrot deck, reminds me of trying to screencapture all the different cards from qfg4 :P
Costume looks amazing, and can of course be used for other dressing up purposes a this time of year... hmm.. should maybe look into making one for next year
David, I love the saturation on your colours, it definately makes the entire image pop out of the screen.
Richard, did you use actual crayons for this or is this some sort of photoshop magic? I recomend that everyone take a few minutes to go over this picture and look into some of the shading that is used.. I didn't notice it until the third time I looked at it, but now that I know it's there it pops out at me every time.
I've attached (if anyone is interested) the 1920*1200 versions of my two submissions. If anyone else feels like posting higher resolutions of their work please do so
They're in zip files, as images 1920 pixels wide tend to stretch the forums ever so slightly

Re: *** WINNERS ANNOUNCED! The Official QFG2 Contest!***
You are aware of the fact that the tarot deck used is an existing (and fairly well known) tarot deck, don't you? It's the Russian tarot deck of St. Petersburg.I love the tarrot deck, reminds me of trying to screencapture all the different cards from qfg4

Re: *** WINNERS ANNOUNCED! The Official QFG2 Contest!***
Since you asked, Alfdaur....
here's a larger version of the picture of the hero, Shema and Shameen during their midnight conversations.

It's all raster, I very seldom do any vector drawings. It was drawn with a brushpen, edited (quite heavily
) and colored in Photoshop.

Re: *** WINNERS ANNOUNCED! The Official QFG2 Contest!***
@Erpy: I didn't at the time, no
Heck, I'm not even sure if I had internet access back then... but yeah, I have since learned that it's the St. Petersburg one (although with some minor modifications.. Or at least I seem to remember reading that the one used in qfg4 was somehow slightly different than the actual St. Petersburg one... hmm.... I'm thinking I should probably try to source it just to see how the real one looks compared to the one used in the game
@Laura: I'm afraid that I have very little experience working with 'manual' tools :P I do most (all) my drawings using my wacom tablet, so I never leave a papertrail :P Is a brushpen similar to what they used to make cartoons (and I suppose some still do) back in the day?
Thanks for the higher resolution version, I'm on my gf's laptop just now, but I'll be sure to save it once I get back from work again. I really love your shading and your use of textures

Re: *** WINNERS ANNOUNCED! The Official QFG2 Contest!***
I don't own the deck itself, but I'm pretty sure the cards used are existent cards in the deck, with the exception of the void card and "ritual cards".
And LauraWM...being the one who created the midnight talking scene, I absolutely adore that pic. It does a wonderful job at portraying the cozy atmosphere the scenes were meant to have.

Re: *** WINNERS ANNOUNCED! The Official QFG2 Contest!***
Great entries everyone! Congrats all you fellow winners, glad to be among such great artists here!!!
I barely had the time and was still scanning all those cards during the eleventh hour. Thus, I didn't create an entire new tarot deck, just the 22 cards of the major arcana. I'll upload all 22 of the cards I entered for the contest in higher res in the near future.
Thanks again AGDI!!
Spikes
PS: The Qfg2 tarot deck was based on the Crowley / Harris tarot.

Oh Wow Solarkid that looks better then I could have imagined. I feel terrible for not hooking you guys up with the uncensored version. If I'd though anyone was going to color it I probably would have.
That really does look great, you've gotten so good with colors!
