If anyone wants to avoid using Steam for some reason, the game's also on Direct2Drive for $9.95 right here. The other Steam releases like Loom, Indy, and The Dig should be up as well.

Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
I just really hope this gets the kind of sales LA is looking for, I mean at such a low price point how can it disappoint. I'm really surprised they went in at that price, too be honest I wouldnt mind paying a little more for it lol!!
Just hope they bring out a PS3 version.

Bought it. Playing it. Loving it.
It's sad, and I know the developers only put this in for me, but being able to flick back to the 256 colour version is pretty kick-ass nerdy. I freaking love it.

You may wind up switching back for the sake of function. I've heard that the transportation of grog is much simplified by returning to the original system.Angelus3K wrote:I'm gonna play the new version then the old version, in that order!!

Yep. It was a different post originally, though. The original mentioned a release date towards the end of August.

Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
Oh crap I was thinking 9th of August there, but in American thats 8th September!!
Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
Downloaded it through Steam for less than $10 and im already 70% into it. Gotta admit that I'm loving it so far, but the animations could have been better in some areas. Also being an old-school adventure gamer (I got a thing about pixels), I love the fact that you can switch to the old version with the press of a button. However doing so, you lose the voices which i believe could have been avoided easily and would have made the whole experience much more enjoyable.
I really hope the sales go well for this game, so that we can have more remakes coming our way, hopefully the next one will he MI2 or Indiana Jones and the last crusade.

Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
Alot of people seem to be complaining about no voices in old style so I think it'd be pretty easy for LA to patch that in if they wanted too.

Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
Talk about the "Curse" of Monkey Island. I downloaded the Special Edition via Steam and this refuses to run as well.
I get (what I assume must be) a launcher menu with nothing visible on it (no buttons, no text) -- just a bit of red and black. Can't continue any further and have to press the X in the top corner to close it. Tried all the technical suggestions on the Steam forum to no avail.
It kind of irks me when big companies like LucasArts can't get their software released without these kinds of bugs. 99% of fangames seem to run more stably than commercial sowtware these days!

Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
SMI:SE uses the .Net Framework so you need the latest version of that, if that helps.

Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
Apparently a lot of people are having these kinds of issues with the game starting up and the launcher displaying funky colors. A few have managed to solve it by installing the net framework. I already have the latest net framework installed in addition to DirectX, though. My system meets the requirements to play the game, but I can't actually get that far. The launcher bug won't let me!
Maybe I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that helps. It's a surprisingly large download, though!

Yea apparently the game is over a gig but the Xbox version is only 500MB, I wonder what the differences are.

I was referring to download size of installer not total game folder size.MusicallyInspired wrote:2.5 GB, actually.

Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
Perhaps the installer is smaller simply due to the proprietary compression of the 360 version of the game.
From the LucasArts Games Twitter: "The PC version of SOMI:SE uses uncompressed art and audio, XBLA has it's own method of compression. - that's where the size difference is at"
In addition, Stan + Weird Al = horrific hilarity.

Dude, I love this re-release. LucasArts really scored with this one. Makes me wish Sierra Games could go this route.

I'm waiting til I get somewhere that I can connect my xbox to the internet to buy it on there, I know I can get all 200 achievement points in the first playthrough haha. can't justify getting the 100 dollar wireless adapter just for MI though.

Re: Monkey Island: Special Edition
So far, the Special Edition is listed as the #2 download on XBLA, the #1 download via Direct2Drive, and it has a 90 on Metacritic. I'd say Monkey Island is back.
Just found an update on Steam sales. It's #1.
And as of today (July 23rd), the iPhone version is in the App Store for $8. Footage in German.
