Stuck with stone puzzle on island..

This puzzle is really starting to annoy me.. I have read the hints from the map over and over, and from what I can make of it the combination should be blue-red-yellow-green-white?? But when I step on the stones in that order I end up back on the start of the path, it doesn't get me forward..

Please help with this, what am I missing?
