This was probably one of the most (if not THE most) complex thing to script in the game. If you've only just started using AGS, then you should probably get a better understanding of how the scripting language works first, before attempting something like this. It's very easy to mess the entire thing up.

That said, check out the InputBox command in the ags.txt file. I guess the difficult thing for us was scripting it so you were only allowed 3 guesses.. it was just overly complicated.

AGS could really do with an optional text parser IMO. Those parsers allow you to get so much deeper into the game. And if AGS had one, I'd probably try converting KQVGA to have both an icon verson and a parser version to! A parser version of a VGA game would be really fun to play, I think.

i think that would be interesting, too, a parser version of a VGA game. Thanks for responding, and as i asked in the KQbugs section, i do have a few other questions about scripting. i'd like to ask you because some of the ?'s have to do with specific things in KQVGA. it's fine if you don't respond super-quick or are no expert with AGS, i'm just looking for ways to get my game off to a good start

Yeah, ask away. Just keep in mind that I may not be able to answer them immediatley because we're quiet busy at the moment getting the next bug-fixed version of the game released and the voice pack ready. But post them here and I'll try to answer them whenever I get a free moment

(it would be easier if you posted them in a new thread)

ROTFL - I actually spend yesterday evening remembering how to spell Rumplestilskin (I´m from Germany, and the fairy tale gnome is called Rumpelstilzchen over here). I didn´t have a dictionary at my place, and I tried again and again lots of combinations until I finally got it right.
