Problems with game??

#1 Post by moo » Tue Jan 28, 2003 7:14 am

Hello!

I just started playing KQ2 (and it's beautiful!!) However, I seem to be having a lot of problems with it. Every time I encounter an Enchanter in the forest, the game freezes. After I solve some of the minor puzzles (such as the swans), the game freezes. And I can't get anywhere, because the game's always freezing = (

Does anyone know why it keeps happening?? (I'm running it on WinXP, if that matters.)

Thank you very much!

Solution

#2 Post by mmp43 » Tue Jan 28, 2003 10:31 am

Before you go around messing with the display (320x or 600x or whatever), try increasing the cache the game uses...
In the "game options" from the main menu (b4 you actually start the game) choose the "advanced" button...
The default is 2 or 5MB. Change it to 20MB. I did and the game only froze up once since then.

Also, make sure to run on 320x200 unless your video card doesn't support that resolution. (in that case, run 640x400);

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashh ...

resolution

#4 Post by mmp43 » Tue Jan 28, 2003 12:33 pm

Erpy: I have a 15" flat-screen monitor, and when I run at either of the low resolutions, I can't see the buttons that say "Credits" and "Continue Game" at the bottom of the menu! I can't blindly click on them either. (Don't know if I tried tabbing to them).
But more importantly, the resolution looks better to me at 960x (or whatever) because it looks less blurry. It looks out-of-focus at lower resolutions.
And, I'm not having any freezing problems at all with the cache set to 20MB! I'm running windows XP btw.
Why is everyone so hung up on resolution?
thanks!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Hmmm...

Usually, if something doesn't actually fit on your screen for a certain resolution, the solution is to adjust the horizontal/vertical position/size controls on the monitor.

I think it's just because 960x600 is really unsupported and because the change to a lower resolution has fixed the problem for many people. In most cases, there's simply no advantage at all to trying that.

There is actually a disadvantage with the 960 resolution. It will slow the game down.
The Knight

Try messing with the display settings in that case. The force letterbox-resolution can help out every now and then. (or the window-option if you really, really have to)

But 960x600 is unsupported, causes bugs and the graphics aren't improved.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/nashg ...
