Dwarf's Trap
I am playing KQ2-Vga for some days now and I really like it.

A question on the Dwarf's Trap. I could disarm it by using my mighty fine sword to cut the rope, but I didn't get any points for that action. And that makes me doubt. Is there another way to solve this puzzle? I don't want to know what it is, just if there is one.

Re: Dwarf's Trap
That is the only way to disarm the trap. So carry on, Player! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Hope you enjoy the rest of the game.

Don't go out the same way you did the last time
You'll break when you fall
Don't make the same mistakes you did all over
You've got to believe in yourself this time

Re: Dwarf's Trap
Thanks Anatoth. Oh, how I hate it when you don't get points for solving a puzzle!

Re: Dwarf's Trap
I can sympathize. However, often you will find that the most obviously solution is the best one (or in this case, the only one). At any rate, have fun with the game.

Oh, and welcome to the board.

Don't go out the same way you did the last time
You'll break when you fall
Don't make the same mistakes you did all over
You've got to believe in yourself this time

Aye.
In this game, there are a whole lot of actions worth no points. The point count from the original was preserved, but there are several times as many actions necessary to win the game, so they can't all be worth something.

Re: Welcome to the Board
Thanks again Anatoth. I think I will come here more often.

Re:
Some of the actions which are really neccessary give you lots of points, such as getting the Birth Gem, etc. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

Re: Re:
There was an opportunity cost to consider. I wanted to keep the original number of points, and also wanted to award more points for completing the 'big' quests. Ergo, some actions - ususally optional ones - could not be assigned points.

Suppose we could've gone for 'half-points'. Don't think that's been done before.

Re: Dwarf's Trap
I understand the choices you made in administring points. It's just that in the original using the sword was always wrong, so you never got points. I thought that in the remake you would do the same. Killing the wolves and getting the library pass do give you points. Killing the lion doesn't. Not getting points for cutting the rope confused me.

But hey, a real adventurer isn't set back by a point more or less. He just tries to solve the puzzles and complete the quest.

Re: Dwarf's Trap
Well for the Lion, you can find an alternative situation that gives you points rather than peforming the violent way with the sword. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Re: Dwarf's Trap
I know. The two options also already existed in the original version. It was an example to show that no points meant wrong use of the sword. An hypothesis which has been negated by the answer to my original question in this post, anyway.

Re: Dwarf's Trap
Just FYI, there are actually 4 ways to pass the lion in the remake. To make it worse, the "best" solution from the original is NOT the "best" solution here. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Don't go out the same way you did the last time
You'll break when you fall
Don't make the same mistakes you did all over
You've got to believe in yourself this time

Re: Dwarf's Trap
AHA! So that's where the missing points went! I will have to look into this.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... altier0 at: 2/24/03 2:49:58 pm

Ok, found it.
I still miss one point though. Grrr!

Re: Dwarf's Trap
Did you check the nightingale's cage thoroughly before you returned it to Angelina? That is a point that is easily missed. The other points that are easily missed are the library books. There are five in all that you can read at different points in the game.

Don't go out the same way you did the last time
You'll break when you fall
Don't make the same mistakes you did all over
You've got to believe in yourself this time

Re: Dwarf's Trap
The nightingale I discovered, because I remembered that in the original game you could kick the nightingale and it would start to sing in panic. Heehee. Too bad that doesn't work in the remake.

Five books? I only remember four. I will look into it.

Re: Dwarf's Trap
There is one point at which you can read two different books. Make sure you didn't miss that. And make sure you visit the library in the beginning of the game before going to the door of destiny and after getting the death gem. Those two are probably the easiest to miss.

Don't go out the same way you did the last time
You'll break when you fall
Don't make the same mistakes you did all over
You've got to believe in yourself this time

Re: Dwarf's Trap
Yep, found it. I missed the one before going to the Door of Destiny. What a lousy way to miss points.

Why doesn't the librarian give you the first book anymore after you went to the Door of Destiny? There's nothing changed from her point of view. Or is she clairvoyant?

Re: Dwarf's Trap
I think that from her point of view, nothing has changed except that it is a day later. Somehow she knows to give you a book that is relevant to the situation that you are now in. That's one good librarian!

"May the way of the hero lead to the Triforce."

Re: Dwarf's Trap
As I understood it, the whole game is covered in 24 hours.

If wish all librarians were as helpful as she is (although she tries very hard to seem not to be). Too bad she denied me points in doing it. Oh well, it's just a point.

I really liked the library. Nice music. Nice lady. She does look awfully similar to some shoemaker's wife I met in Serenia. Perhaps after her marriage she moved from Kolyma to help her husband in his not-so-thriving business.
