KQ Timeline
Hi there,

(sorry if this is in the wrong forum but the general forum sounded less appropriate)

I've found a KQ timeline on the web. I was wondering where this came from and how official it is. It would make sense, for one, that Alexander's journey to Daventry (in KQ3) takes several months.
On the other hand. It specifies that Manannan kidnapped Alexander when he was only eleven months old, thus forcing the wizard to deal with a baby and raise an infant for years; it would make more sense to kidnap a six-year-old or so.
Also the timeline states that in 1610, the dragon came to Daventry, and that walls were constructed to keep it away. Now given that most dragons fly, how on earth does a wall help?

As a side point, does anyone know if Rosella or Alexander is the eldest? Of course they're twins but one must be a minute older or so.

Finally, I noticed that the wizard's name in KQ3 is Manannan, but in KQ5 he's referred to as Mannanan (note the Ns). Which is correct?

Thanks,
Radiant / Pieter

Re: KQ Timeline
Manannan DID indeed kidnap infants, as they would have less memory of their real parents.

Don't know the answer to the rest of your questions, sorry.
Pidgeot
-----
Every error you find is the last one.

Re: KQ Timeline
kidnapping babies- I believe that it said in the manual that Banana-man could create invisible servants. Unfortunatly, I'm at university and my manual is at home, so I can't check that. So he gets the invisible servants to look after the baby until it's useful.

Building a wall to keep the dragon out- hmm.. maybe the dragon couldn't fly all that high. Maybe it just acted as a place from which archers and whatnot could attack the dragon with some protection.

Who's older- Why should it matter? I always thought of Alexander as the older one, but I think that's just me being alphabetical. If you're thinking about inheritance, it would go to Alexander anyways, cause he's the male heir.

Spelling of Mannanan/Manannan- now you're just being pedantic.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Where did you find the timeline? I'd like to see it!

Re: KQ Timeline
He's probably referring to the timeline at the King's Quest IX website, here.

Hm...
Yes, that's the timeline I was referring to.

The dragon may not be able to fly high, but he could get up in the cloud land. And since he wouldn't fit through the cave stairways (which is real narrow in the KQ1 orig/KQ3), it's either that or climb the beanstalk <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

As to who's eldest, my first thought would actually be Rosella. Because at the end of KQ3, Graham flips his hat at the twins and I remember thinking this was very strange since I/Alexander just travelled hundreds of miles and slain a dragon, and Rosella just stood there and even kept screaming when the beast was dead. I mean come on... (of course this was before KQIV was released)
(but I believe neither would inherit anyway because of a certain curse, so the point is academic)

As to the invisible servants, if Mannnannnnnan could do that then what's the point in kidnapping kids?

But.........................................................
Manannan wouldn't have to worry about the invisible servants learning magic.
The Knight

"I see in your eyes, the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails.
When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship but it is not this day.
This day we fight!"

Re: But.....................................................
According to the manual, M didn't like whimsical spirits around in his house when there was the option of a more controllable human servant, whom he enjoyed tormenting.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

Re: But.....................................................
The servents would not be whimsical, they would be forced to follow his every command. The thing is I doubt that he could banish them, so eventually, the house could get crowded, since the spirits could not learn new things.
It made more sense to have something that could learn, and he prefered his solitude to convinience in getting said servent.

Re: But.....................................................
I'm just quoting the manual:

Quote:
Although he was powerful, and capable of conjuring up vast armies of spirit servants to sweep his hearth, prepare his meals, and other menial tasks with which he would not soil his hands, this solution to his everyday needs was not satisfactory to him. For he liked his solitude, and didn't want a lot of spirits (who besides all else, are quite inquisitive and mischievous) cluttering up his house.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashc ...

Of course, Gwydion wasn't curious or mischievous in the least. Nosirree.
