KQ2 VGA seems to crash whenver I attempt to save my game. I click on the save button and the game immediately quits to the desktop. I'm using Windows 2000, with 264 megs of ram, and directX 8.1.

But what I've been able to see of the game sure looks great.

I tried deleting everything and reinstalling. No such luck.

Have you managed to save at all?

ie. is the problem:

(a) you saved successfully once, but now it crashes whenever you try to save again

(b) the very first time you tried to save it crashed?

Do you get any sort of error message or does it just go to the desktop?

I saved two or three times. Now whenever I just select the save button, the game crashes. New games seem to do this too.

It just goes straight to desktop and says I should report this to Tierra.

Is there any chance you could go into the game folder, zip up the AGSSAVE.001, AGSSAVE.002 and so on (these are the save game files). If you delete those AGSSAVE.* files, it should fix the crash, however I'd appreciate getting a copy of the files you have to try and isolate the bug.

I appear to be having the same problem... But it's any time I talk to the merchant.. the sound locks up and I have to go to windows and manually exit out of the game. Should I delete my save games as well? Is that the fix I need?

Thanks for your help..

Gab

anonymous: could you mail the zipped saves to dosuser@bigfoot.com ; as for gabbahey1, you could try - but make a backup copy of the save games first so you can copy them back if that wasn't the problem.

I remember now that I had the same problem. Although it wasn't to do with that particular puzzle, it was just interacting generally with the merchant. Unfortunately I can't tell you the situation because I assumed it was because I had a bunch of other programs running at the time. But it froze completely, locked everything, couldn't alt-x or anything, had to reboot.

I just had the same problem again in the area with the merchant, but this time I wasn't interacting with him. Theres definately an error somwhere in that error that causes the game to crash

I moved all my saves out of the directory and still same problem. It appears that I can't go anywhere else in the game until this one is worked out... Any suggestions other than the save games?

Quick Fix

To escape the lockup, when you go to talk to the merchant, quickly press the escape key until the conversation ends. That worked for me, hope this helps.

Dr. Arbitrary
