Random char screwiness
(KQ2)

I don't imagine there's any way you're not aware of this, but here it is regardless:

Randomly appearing characters (like the dwarf) create room transition probs.

Sometimes the screen will fade out as normal, but the game won't switch to the next room until that random character's theme song is done playing (can be quite a while).

Sometimes you'll get to the room exit point but the screen won't fade, and the random character will keep walking up to you before the screen fades and the room changes.

Occasionally, particularly when you're exiting the room just as the character comes onscreen, the screen fades out normally, then reappears without having changed rooms with the sprites in the same positions as before the fadeout. The random character walks up to you and the screen fades out again and changes rooms properly.

This isn't a big problem as it doesn't affect actual gameplay, but it looks pretty sloppy.

Re: Random char screwiness
Actually, it's not about the song, but about the character. The screen won't disappear until the "enemy" left the screen himself. (and he never leaves in the direction you fled)

This was done to make it more realistic. You actually see the enemy giving up the chase and walking away, instead of (logically thinking) getting the idea that the cretin was simply stopped instantly because you "walked out of the screen".

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

Yeah
Right, that's what happens sometimes, and it makes sense. But a lot of other times, they do leave the way I did, and the whole fade-out-back-in-back-out obviously isn't right.

.
i had this happen a few times with the enchanter, i changed rooms, the screen faded, the enchanter's music took a few seconds to wrap up, and then the next screen faded in. it did seem like the enchanter's music had to finish playing before graham could appear in the new room.

but, as was mentioned, it did not affect gameplay. just an observation... i'm not complaining!

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> emily

Yep, the tune has to play to the end before the screen changes, otherwise the music would cut off abruptly when you enter the next screen.

As soon as Graham exits off the screen edge, a short (5 second?) theme will play that comes to a proper ending. During this time, the enemy (dwarf or enchanter) will leave the screen. Sometimes, the enemy is very close to the screen edge though, and is able to exit fast... but the screen change will not trigger until the 5 second peice of music ends.

By the way, the screen should only turn black for a few seconds if Graham exits to the north. This is done so you won't see him standing still until the enemy dissapears. The black is intended to give the impression that Graham is still walking north during that time. However, if Graham exits in any other direction, the screen should stay visible until the enemy dissapears off the edge.
