Can't start KQ2

#1 Post by Duarh » Sat Dec 07, 2002 12:53 pm

You read it right. . .it just doesn't start. I get a button on the taskbar as if it was running, but I can't get into the game. I can't shut it down. If I do it through alt-ctrl-delete, the system just crashes.

i am using windows ME, celeron 800 w. rather a lot of RAM

How are you trying to start the game? Are you:

1/ clicking "Play Game" from the launcher menu?

2/ Or are you going into the start/Programs/tierra/KQ2VGA menu and clicking on 'Play King's Quest 2 VGA'?

3/ Manually going into the game directory and double clicking the KQ2VGA.EXE icon?

Could you try all 3 methods and let me know which ones crash and which (if any) load the game succesfully.

None of the versions let me run the game. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> I'd tried them already. Fortunately, I have another PC to play on

I think this is a general problem with AGS. I also have a computer that will not run ANY game made with AGS. It's a good thing I have a older backup computer that will run these games. The computer that will not run AGS games is AMD based and has VIA onboard sound.

Have you tried the patch, out of interest? Does it work then?

Bit strange, I have an AMD with VIA on-board sound and it works fine. I assume you have the latest DirectX installed?

Yes all drivers are up to date. Until you mentioned it I probably would not have bothered to try again on this computer but YES it now works with patch #2. I am a fan of games made with AGS and until now I always had to play them on the other computer. It is also an AMD but in that computer I have a SB Live. At first I thought the problem might have been the USB mouse I am using, so I tried a PS2 mouse with no luck. When I tried to start the game it would just sit there at the desktop like it was trying to find a piece of hardware such as a mouse or sound card. The button would appear in the taskbar but the computer would eventually lock up completely. I have only run the intro and about 5 minutes of the game because I have to go to work, but when I have time I will play through the game and let you know how it is running
