Dwarf bug
The game just stops for me after I get robbed (or something, i never find out) by the dwarf. I've got a patch and it's not the classical freeze - Graham just stands there for minutes, looking to the left, looking to the right (game busy cursor), not doing anything.
-----
Ah, also - i'm running this on a different computer so the 'can't start KQ2' thread is still valid
-----

Fooled around some more. Turns out it crashes whenever the dwarf exits the screen. Waah *is frustrated*
-----

Oh glorious day, I feel almost like a bug-spotter
-----

found an extension to this bug. The game crashes when the 'evil enchanter' leaves the screen too. On both occasions (both w. the enchanter and the dwarf) there is this swishing sound before the game stops responding. . .
-----

Strangely enough, just survived the dwarf leaving OK, twice in a row. Strange bug. But, since it's occurred repeatedly with the dwarf & enchanter under the same conditions (leaving the screen), it must still be a bug - probably the result of several factors accumulating
-----

STill the only poster in this thread *SPOILERS - SHARKEES*

encountered the same problem after using the trident - there was the animation of lightning and then he just sat there forever on his horse, waiting
-----

Ok. . .this must be the buggiest game i've ever played no offense intended, it's still fun, of course

i turned music on - got past the point, but it crashed repeatedly when i tried to save the game (the moment i clicked on 'replace') (again, i have the patch installed). I turned the music off again and it worked just fine. . .*sigh*
-----

Turned music on again (digital pack), crashed again, here's the error details:

global script line 3080
error: string argument was null: make sure you pass a string, not an int, as a buffer

Ah, btw, it's very strange - when you turn off 'midi music' in the setup, it turns off ALL music, the digital pack version as well. is that called midi too?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... >Anonymous Game Creator 2 at: 12/7/02 1:09:06 pm

Re: Dwarf bug
I've edited all your posts and pasted them into one thread. I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but you can use the edit button under your username to the left colum to edit your original post. Please make use of this when possible, as with my crappy modem, it's taken at least 20 mins to move all the posts and reply to this thread.

Also, you've been finding a lot of minor unrelated bugs. You can post these in a single thread instead of posting new topics for each, as they're not major issues -these things are easier to fix.

Ok, now onto the bugs:

Dwarf/Enchanter: Did the game ever crash with an error message or did it just lock up and the wait (crown) icon was stuck on the screen?

You said that this happens whenever the enemy leaves the screen. But did this happen when YOU walked of the screen and then they walked off shortly after? or;

Did it lock-up when they dwarf stole the item from you and then left the screen / The enchanter entered the screen, noticed a particular item you were carrying and then exited?

Did it always occur in the same screen or in every screen where these characters are encountered?

Quote:
encountered the same problem after using the trident - there was the animation of lightning and then he just sat there forever on his horse, waiting

Do you mean when you shot the trident at the wall or when you shot it at a roaming Sharkee sentry? If you mean the wall, then you should be able to press the ESC key to skip past this particular lock-up. It's one that we found in beta testing.

Quote:
i turned music on - got past the point, but it crashed repeatedly when i tried to save the game (the moment i clicked on 'replace') (again, i have the patch installed). Chris will have to clear this one up I think.

Quote:
Ok. . .this must be the buggiest game i've ever played no offense intended, it's still fun, of course.

I think the reason for all the bugs is because KQ2 is probably the biggest and most complex game created with AGS so far. Many of the new features are probably only being used exclusively by KQ2VGA and thus have not gone through heavy testing on a wide variety of systems like most smaller AGS games have. Because of this, some bugs have eluded us up until now. We'll get them all eventually though, and each bug fixed makes AGS more stable for future games. :)

Re: Dwarf bug
Yes, selecting No MIDI Music will disable music completely. It's a known 'feature'.

It's interesting that turning music on made it crash - can you try turning the MIDI music on, and changing the Digital Sound Driver to "Default WaveOut device", and see if it still crashes?
