Thoughts on this remake.

#1 Post by SolinariDotCom » Wed Jan 07, 2004 6:48 am

Let's begin by saying I never was much a fan of King's Quest as a series. My first exposure to the series was King's Quest VI, many, many years ago. I enjoyed the game at the time, but I was much younger then. I was fairly disappointed with KQ VII, and I never bothered with KQ VIII.

Anyway, I made the finding of QUest for Glory series in 1997~, which I adore to this day. Anyway, I never went back to the older King's Quest. I was looking around at sites such as Black Bird and so forth, which is how I ended up at Tierra due to their QfG II remake in the works.

In the mean time, I decided to check out the King's Quest games. So, I first tried KQ: Quest for the Crown.

Which was disappointing, to say the least. However, it's completely understandable due to the pure age of the game, and lack of modifications. Had I played this 9 years ago or so, it would have been an enjoyable adventure.

But King's Quest II? That's another story all together. This is actually something fantastic that I enjoy much. From the first ten minutes, I could see the polish and depth that KQ II had far beyond the original KQ. I undertstand this is largely (probably fully, since I havn't played the original) due to Tierra's involvement.

From the moment I set foot in this new world, I was entranced. The fantastic story, characters, and backdrops make me want to tear in to KQ III-V right away. As a big admirer of video game music, I'll say Tom has done a fantastic job, especially in allowing the OST to be downloaded from his web site, Quest Studios. The music really brings Kolyma alive.

I really look forward to Tierra's QfG II graphical overhaul, and any original projects planned (if any) in the future.

Fantastic job!

EDIT : Of course, I completely neglected the voice overs - these are spectacular, and I couldn't really imagine playing the game without them after experiencing it. While I felt skeptical about a few of them, the vast majority were well done, a great job overall.

//Josh
http://www.solinari.com
Solinari Gaming
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... iDotCom at: 1/7/04 12:51 am
