I have never made a game before, so I need a little help here. I want to make a simple little turn based strategy game...anyone have any tips as to what to use to create it and such?

Speaking as one who has written a complete turn-based strategy game, it might actually be best if you tried something simpler first. Also, unless you want to make it in Adventure Game Studio (which is possible but not exactly convenient) there are better places to ask around, such as planet-source-code.com and gamasutra.com.
