Christmas Present from the Heroine's Quest Team

#1 Post by Corby » Thu Dec 23, 2004 1:24 pm

If anyone is bored during christmas and want to play a small vintage sierra adventure, check out our main page:
http://www.corbydesigns.com/hq

Programmed in AGI of course, so don't expect anything too spectacular.
Enjoy! And comments are most welcome!
Please report any bugs :)

Looks good. :)

Is there any dead-ends in the game?

That is excellent work, Corby! Why ever did you give up on that?

Dead ends? Not that I know of. I must've tested the game 20 times. There were a lot of bugs though.
I think I lost interest in it because of school and making games in AGS.
Rog - Glad you made it that far!  :)

You've got the talents for EGA graphics, most people dont get enough detail and perspective right but you've done it pretty well.  ;)

This game is pretty addictive.  I got as far as getting the ingredients for the strength potion in the elven land.  I'm supposed to cast a certain spell in the misty area but I have no idea where to get that spell.  Any hints?

Man, I'm sooo tempted to make music for this game, too.  I had a pretty good tune in my head when I was chasing the elf boy.
You have to eat something... fruity
Speaking of eating, try eating the magic mushroom, or stealing the dwarves treasure... there are quite a few fun death scenes.

Corby, you really rock at AGI. Maybe you'd be willing to help me out part time with background art for a SQ fan project that has been in development for 6 months. The site will up soon.  ;)

No way!  He has to finish Heroine's Quest first!   ;)   But, he is friggin good at 16 color art.  1986 Sierra artists would be proud.

Yes, I must finish Heroine's Quest, and some backgrounds I promised for others. I don't think I will ever go back to AGI, I did two games in it and it's time to move on. Oh and I'm used to criticism, if there's one thing people like to criticize it's art!  :(

I get the feeling I'm partly to blame for that last comment.

You asked us to report any bugs. Here are the ones I have currently found:

1. "See Inventory item" -option doesn't work. In other words, when you press F4 and select an item to see, nothing happens. (You can still see items by typing "Look jar", for example.)

2. When you are in the Archmage's house and try to walk upstairs, the game get stuck and you must press Ctrl-alt-del to restart. The reason is, that the message "You don't want to enter upstairs..." continues to pop up every time you press enter, and you can never get back to playing. This was very annoying bug.

3. Why the walking speed gets slower when you enter your own house or general store in the town?

4. Where is score? Whatever I do in the game, the score doesn't seem to increase.

The game is still very good and resembles Sierra's classic AGI-games quite much. Well done! :)

It was not negative, I was just pointing out that in some backgrounds could use a little more detail.  ;)

Help needed!

#23 Post by Fribbi » Sun Dec 26, 2004 3:04 pm

It seems to me there is no scorepoints in this game. 0 of 0,  well atleast it makes sense to me.

But anyway I'm stuck in this game. Where can I find the last gem in the forest? I have searched everywhere. Is that rigth or wrong of me if I put one gem in the hole in each time I find a gem or should I just wait after that and try to collect every 5 gems first? Great game but the only bugs I can report since JLM5 has mentioned the others before is the sounds.

What is the problem with the sound you might ask? Well there is no sounds in the game just a loud and annoying squeky sounds and I can't get it off even I turn the sound off and the heroine walk too slow.

But I hope there is a big walkthrough coming up soon.

That's wonderful! I would dare to say that those graphics are better than any of the original AGI sierra games, that dragon is really majestic.
I would love to see more of this game.

Let's see, the archmage bug so far is the only one people have found so I'm pretty happy with that. I decided not to go with the score since I never really cared for it. I found that people would have full points if they did everything right during the game.
You walk slower in your house and the shops because I used a lot of sprites in those locations, which slows things down for some reason.
I have no clue why the See Inventory item function doesn't work... I always thought this was a problem with the engine.
But for that and Fribbi's sound problem, you could try out this engine out:
http://www.agidev.com/projects/nagi/
It usually solves any problems. Dosbox should fix things too.
And for Fribbi:
There is a gem in these locations:
1. The troll cave.
2. The hole in the ground with the ladder.
3. Past the swamp in the fallen log.
4. Past the fire.
5. In the blue monster's den.
You can place the gems in the monolith any time you want as long as you eventually place them all.
