This is the most awesome sentence every constructed in the English language. I'm bowled over by it's sheer size and gargantuan power. I admire it's will to exist and it's power to completely ignore virtually every law and requirement of grammar. It's a bold statement in the face of such harsh marks, like the previously used comma. I salute the sentence and it's author for being brave enough to write it. Just thought I'd note that.
Now, on the subject at hand, I'd buy copies of these collections. I have many of them, in various formats and such, but it'd be nice to have clean, pristine versions of all of them that will ensure compatability in the years to come. I don't anticipate these releases to be exhoribitantly expensive, so I don't mind plunking down the cash. And, perhaps, if they sell well, it will revive corporate interest in adventure gaming to a degree.

OK! I know I don't use correct grammar in my post. Im just you traditional lazy fat couch potato that does every thing quickly but not completly. So I'm sorry if my posts are not the best but hey at least i got a laugh out of the posts made about my grammar. Lmao
P.S. Sorry that this post is off the topic. I just didn't think it was worthy of a new thread.

Hmm... I'll be getting the Space Quest collection. (The only other Sierra series I liked besides Quest for Glory, because I'm a LucasArts guy)

do you think the collections will work with out the discs i mean will they require the discs during gameplay cause if the discs are used constantly they might get ruined so i hope i can install the game from disc and put them in a safe place for all eternity or at least till my computer craps out on me

They SHOULDN'T require the disc, given the fact that the AGI and SCI engines are both virtual machines. Therefore, even if the CD installer doesn't copy the games, nothing should be stopping you from doing it yourself.
Then again, they DID change the engine for this - and if they packed the game data inside the EXE-file, they might also have changed that part.
Personally, I'd imagine that you get an all-purpose engine installed (that is, one that does all of the AGI and SCI versions used by these games) and that you simply select the games you want copied at the same time.

Well that depends on how good Vivendi/sierra has improved the copy protection since 1997 when the KqCollection2 was released. Alot can change in 9 years time. Or if they just made changes to the games its self making them xp compatible and didnt worry about copy protection then it might work.

Well, previous collections wouldn't copy the mega-huge resource.aud file (aka the voice pack) so you would have to use the CD to run the games at all. I don't see why these collections would be any different, emulator or no.

Well, case in point: QFG1VGA didn't have voices, therefore wouldn't need to run the nonexistent resource.aud file. However, didn't you notice you needed the CD for QFG4?
And if you're paranoid about running down the disk, just take good care of it. Those things are designed to last you a VERY long time if you take good care of them. I still have the first CD I ever bought 10 years ago and it still plays fine.

Alternatively, just copy the disc to an image file on your computer (i.e. rip it to an iso file). Since hard drive space is really cheap nowadays, this is what I've done for all my software CDs, the originals are stored safely away. You can mount the image file as a virtual CD drive using a program like Daemon Tools (
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php). DosBox can also directly mount CD image files as virtual drives.

For a lot of games that "required" the CD, like many of Sierra's voice games, you could also copy the .aud file to the hard drive and mess around with the settings in the resource.cfg file to avoid the game from accessing the CD all the time.

Well now finally amazon.com has the box art that vivendi posted on their site. So that might actually mean that September 15th might be the release date. Im just speculating right now.

If any other post starts with the word 'well' I might pop. :p
Great news about the collection though. Never hurts to expose more people to great games like these.

I was talking to a friend about this on MSN and he mentioned how the KQ boxart was misleading to the games. I wonder if Vivendi did this on purpose so it looks more appealing to todays gamer.

I just did this to all of my Quest collections yesterday. I don't need any of the CDs now even for SQ6/KQ7 and the higher up games (DOS versions, of course. It's probably possible with the Windows versions too, though).
And regarding the misleading King's Quest boxart, yeah it really is. But then again so was the very first King's Quest box art. It was like grey or something with a knight in full silver armour, helmet, sword and shield!

I think that the cover was King Edward talking to Graham.
